Very well put article. But Now the show Counting Cars has been cancealed. it is the circle of life of a particle model. Just don't bring back the Pacer. Counting Cars had a lot more to add than the Pacer.

The platform is 20 years old, let it die so that we can get a lighter chassis with more power.
Good on Dodge for making a decent platform that stood the test of time, but it’s time to restart, not refresh.
I would disagree here. The size and style of the Challenger is what makes it sell IMO. If someone wants small and light there are other options out there. Simply building a smaller and lighter Challenger won't a Challenger make. The reason I like it so much is because it is literally a muscle car, not a sports car with a V8. Just my .02 cents though.

I NEVER see Hellcats around where I live. Maybe once every 2-3 months and honestly I rarely see an SRT vehicle either. I do see a few 5.7L Chargers and V6 Durangos quite a bit.

@Illegal_Demon I'm curious what your wife's reasons were for wanting an EV? I'm always curious about that and I'm assuming being married to you she knows they're not any better for the environment, so curious why she'd want one?

Folks I talk to that have them have just been flat uneducated and think they're doing "their part" to save the planet, bless their hearts.
Speedy are you married? I ask since I'm curious how you don't know women have their own ideas and ways that are often mysterious! :p And no, she's very educated, maybe over-educated so that ain't it, lol!

While I readily admit there are holes in this EV plan, I also am not naive enough to think we can keep spewing carbon at will until the 22 century. Like always, humans just swing too far in one direction then swing back too far in response. It's how the species rolls. And it's what we are seeing with the EV movement now. That said, there are definite advantages associated with wifey's plug-in hybrid. We have filled up on gas in her car maybe 4-5 times in the last 24 months. No joke. The car is well built (Kia Niro) and we literally ahve had zero upkeep. Even brakes wear down slower in these things (regenerative braking helps). So no complaints so far. As for me, I worked from home over the past year but even when I do drive, my office is 2 mi away. So we barely use much gas. Spirited runs in the Demon are the biggest ticket fuel cost, lol.

As a result...Gas crisis? What gas crisis? I filled up last week and the last time I had done that in her car was in March. $4/gal gas definitely sucks. Glad that's at least one problem I don't have.

Yeah but even in the 60s weight and size mattered.

See aluminum bodied 1963 Swiss cheese Catalinas and the like...
Also lighter, smaller Fbodies vs heavier a-bodies with the same engine.

It's no different now. Power/weight will always matter. We are just using carbon fiber now instead of aluminum.

@Illegal_Demon I hope my question didn't come across condescending, I tried to be careful how I worded it. Yes, I am married, and married WAY up, like no idea how that happened UP LOL. I'm legitimately interested in what makes people want electric cars that's why I asked. I can understand avoiding $4/gallon gas but let's face it on this forum we're driving pretty expensive cars, relatively speaking, so I didn't think saving gas money was a priority.

I daily drive a 20 year old Toyota 4Runner that's got bigger tires on it and supercharged, so it needs premium fuel and gets around 17mpg if I'm nice to it. I'm also working from home and only put fuel in it once a month so at a current $60 fillup that's $15 a week, so not even lunch really. The wife's car (Infiniti Q60 Red Sport) every 2 months, so our fuel bill is way down compared to before so that wouldn't really be a consideration for us at least, but I am seeing more Teslas on the road so I've been curious what makes people want them other than saying they have one to that crowd.

I do agree that if going the EV route a hybrid is definitely what I would recommend to someone set on it at this point in time. Don't wanna end up stranded or something number one, and number two once EVs are more common place I'm betting there'll be add'l taxes, charges, etc associated with them so options are good. Here in TN I'm hearing they're looking at how to recoup the loss in fuel tax from EV owners as those taxes go to road improvements. Will be interesting.

I just paid $3.05/gallon for E85 yesterday in the Hellcat, so that's a whole different problem

Personally, I thought hydrogen would be the next big thing.

Married for 68 years?? Lord have mercy how old are u, bro !?
Obviously I'm a bit younger than you...and the Caveman dragging-the-wife-by-her-hair marriage model is no longer in vogue!

I kid, I kid ...This has become quite the funny thread!

The age thing is funny...most of our friends are 15/20 years younger than my wife and I...I chuckle when they talk about padding their 401k's..pension and investment concerns....where they hope to be @ age 65..I never worried about that at their age..I still own multiple businesses...work every day..and will do so till it's not fun anymore..
