Would love to know what the high bid was. Obviously the auction estimate of $425,000 to $525,000 was way off. But I've said it before, and I'll say it again... I don't care how the car does it, I just want under 10 seconds in the quarter mile, over 130mph at the trap, under 3 seconds 0 to 60 with minimal wheel spin, street legal, and cost under $80,000. Is that too much to ask for?

They misjudged their target audience at the auction I'd say.

I did see today where a stripped out model s spanked that new electric Porsche (pre production) on the Nurburgring by 20 seconds. Times are changing, but hey to each his own

As mentioned before, the reserve was too high. You remove the reserve and that car sells for 2x as much as the Demon that follows it across the block.

At any one given time, I count 20+ tesla's zipping around town. They seem to be literally everywhere. Dirty, neglected, trashed inside. Most often they are just sitting at the local charging station, owner near by on his cellphone patiently waiting to go another 200 miles..lol
Fast or not, expensive or not, no one really cares about them it seems, especially their owners.
However, not a single time that we have taken the cat out, have we failed to have people oggle & ahh all over it, take pics, thumbs up, wave, etc. I cant even get gas most times without inducing a pow wow around the car.
The cat is a visceral & auditory experience on steroids. Its not just about power & speed (which for me it has more than enough), its the presence, the style, the now easily recognized fender badges thanks to Dodges off the charts marketing (when's the last time we saw a tesla commercial?) and the amazing sounds that come from out back & under hood when she is chewing up pavement at an exceptional rate (by any standard)...
Sorry but no tesla or in this post case, an Ev camaro, will ever replace that.
Fast or not, the Ev's by comparision, are IMO, well, kinda boring.

Know why that didn't sell? Because 500 grand is ****ing insane. I don't care if its in the 9s on a good run or not, that's just stupid. Now I know, all these money bags who will drop $500,000 on diamond studded dog dish and the like might eat that up, but not in the real world. At least they aimed high...

In my neighberhood we have Teslas up the ass. Everytime I look around when I'm at a red light I see one next to me. My wife wanted one for a long time but now she is no longer interested. She feels like she's already owned one. She's sick of them. LOL

I hope enough people continue to buy electrics and continue to drive the price of gasoline down so I can enjoy more miles of smiles in my thumping V8 personally.

Eventually they'll hit a tipping point where the charging will start impacting utility rates I presume. I hope they don't try to spread the infrastructure upgrades out among all utility customers but I bet they will.

I suspect the taxation in the USA is similar to us Canucks where there is a ton of road tax on fuel. The e-cars need to start paying road tax.

I love where electric performance vehicles are going and I'm a fan. They simply offer a different experience than a ICE. That being said, I don't want to see high performance ICE going away either. I'd love to have a Tesla, and might one in the next few years unless a better product comes along. That being said, I'll still keep the Hellcat regardless.
