The last week I almost got it ready to race, decided against it, now bringing it back to street. Something was whispering to me last Friday night to NOT race. After looking at everything close and putting things back this morning two horrible things appeared and both would have been expensive and one a potentially dangerous failure!
First I have seen this movie before. I cannot get happy with the lowering springs I installed a couple of months ago. Well they will be for sale soon. The right rear axle is showing signs of being very unhappy! I do not give a damn how many people say it works, their car survives it and the new damn Redeye axles do not have problems with their axle boots, EVEN THE NEW AXLE BOOTS DO NOT LIKE BEING LOWERED!
Grease is beginning to seep! Damn it. If I would have tracked this at BIR Saturday we would have had at least one side fail, period. This is a result of a few hundred street miles.
The other thing discovered is that the inside edges of my street front tires have decided time was up recently. In a serious looking way. They did not do this before the new springs were installed. They look so bad I could have developed a problem at very high speeds last Saturday with one of the fronts. It would have been wearing nearly new rubber, but I was going to drive it 120 miles to the track. Not pretty to even think about. I did check the alignment settings and the front was about the same as before, so that little problem will take a bit more head scratching.
I know after we install the OEM springs (by the absolute correct tech), the alignment will be on the nuts. I am going to join him and we are going to align it with his machine and my direction of tab placement on the AAD pieces. My new front Pilot Sport 4s tires will like life.
