Hey Guys, I've been experiencing what I think is binding and popping and I think its coming from my differential. BUT it only does it in REVERSE and only while TURNING.
I changed the gear oil and added friction modifier also no change. old gear oil looked perfect. the diff sounds perfect no noise while backing straight and driving. thoughts?

Mine does it too, but only when backing out of the driveway. To me it almost seems like trying to turn sharp with bald front tires. Kind of a skipping sound I guess.

Wasn't there some additive guys found to add that would cure the noise? My car is a 2017 but the bulletin was published is 2016, so my car should have the right stuff in from the factory per the bulletin, correct?

Well having the right stuff from the factory is always a guess right? When the 15's and some 16's rolled out, some didn't have the friction mods needed for the clutches in the posi-rear end and several people Fubar'd the whole pumpkin. Luckily I caught mine in time before any serious damage, or so they said.

I thought they were nuts when they said it was the gear oil, but after they replaced it, ticking gone. I'd highly recommend anyone with a 15/16 to change out the gear oil with the proper friction mod gear oil they recommend.

AMSOIL makes a good rear diff limited slip additive. I have it in mine and no popping issues.

Are you sure it’s differential ?? Mines makes a noise when backing and turning as well not so much a popping but a clicking noise and I believe I narrowed it down to pads in the caliper other then annoying it isn’t a problem, also if you been at the track with it I’ve heard the spider gears inside the differential go bad

I have a 19 Challenger.
It makes an odd noise when backing while turning also.
Anyone heard of 19's with similar issues?

Tires jumping on the cold surface? Usually comes from the front, but just throwing out a thought, because the differentials usually don't pop, unless they are going to pop loud soon.

Mine make the sound as i am backing out of car port onto grass.
Probably should be looked at.
Between 65 to 80 the rear gets really squirrelly.
Thought it might be the tires.

Mine had started making that noise on slow, tight turns as well.
Plan to show the dealer the TSB when I go in next month for my usual oil chg/service. Fingers crossed there is no hassle getting it done.

UPDATE: I took my Cat in for routine maint. and showed the SR the TSB. Tech confirmed the 'rubbing' noise & they changed out the gear lube under warranty.
Have not put many miles on it yet, but the noise is already almost gone.
