I know some of us remember when Bias ply tires were the only tire you could purchase.

Man they were great when you wanted a little tire smoke, no problem in seconds.

Going around a curve probably about .5 G's and they would start squealing like little piggies and start sliding and then at the limit you slid off the road! LOL

Then radials started, my first radial tire experience were with BF Goodrich radial TA's and what a difference.

Todays new tire compounds and aggressive tire treads are leaps and bounds better but those Bias ply tires kept you within certain boundaries.

Not even going to discuss the wet traction difference, just huge.

But they were a lot of fun.

Yep. Had some Fisk 165/80 15 bias ply tires on my ‘69 Karman Ghia. Couldn’t break them loose though with rear engine and 50 ponies.

How about re-cap tires, remember those too?
My first car ever when I was 16 was a 1963 Ford Galaxie, 2 door fastback with a 1969 390 engine and transmission in it. Cost me a hundred bucks. Course I only made $1.85 hr then. Not much more now come to think of it. Anyway for the Minnesota winters you went to your local tire shop and picked up a couple of recap snow tire. Cost ten bucks for the pair! If you drove somewhat carefully like any 16 year old would do --- you could just about get a full winter out of them. Man with a 390 and a single wheel wonder differential you could smoke `em for two blocks long!

Just imagine having a 426 max wedge or even a 66 Hemi car on the street with 775x14’s on it!

Had them on my '71 Charger back in HS. Even worse, I remember having 2 bias ply and 2 radial tires on the same car. That was a handful.

I do remember bias-ply, I was young, but they were around. Right during the transition to radials.

All of the crazy things that you could and couldn't do back in the day with tire rotations. I took me a long time to let go of a lot of that stuff about tires too!

Do I remember the bias-ply tires! I worked for Dayton Tire and Rubber Co. and I was a tire builder and I built 1000's of bias-ply tires. Now, on my '69 Hurst SC/Rambler I have red stripe E70 Goodyear Polyglas tires all around. In the trunk is an original 1969 E70 red stripe Goodyear Polyglas tire and it still holds air, at 51 years old!!!

!968 Ford Country Squire Wagon with a 390 2 barrel, that could fit 10 people and first car that I remember had seat belts. On a trip from NJ to California and back, brand new car and travel trailer had a tire blowout. My Dad then put on radials after that scary incident. At 18 took that vehicle to the Florida keys for a winter break with a bunch of friends. Back then we could drink at that age also.
Never bought recaps but do remember seeing those road alligators.

Forgot about the alphabet tire nomenclature. But 15's were the largest for passenger cars.

Boy you were asking for trouble with that setup, improved your driving skills real quick (slowed down) or you didn't last

Speaking of Bias,, state of Florida is trying to take my license away again. 3rd time and this time they have doubled up on the paper work. They want a form filled out by my alchol and drug coulensoler. Believe it or not, I don't have one. Never have. Another attempt to take away our rights. Had 1 DUI with fiancee # 3 but was not with fiancee# 4. # 4 was at home in the hot tub and girl friend was on duty at Pinellas County Police Dept. Cops said if I had mentioned that I was dating play boy of the county,,, wood have lat me go. I took the DUI instead. Another story. DUI was 25 years ago. They took my license 4 times caused I pissed em off. Guess I am not thru.

But they are all Government related.

You need a real good attorney.
