More so is it really needed? A 2016 Hellcat never came with a 3.09

It’s never as simple as just this vs that. The Demons came with 3.09’s for a reason. Hellcats with the OE street tires came with 2.62’s for good reason. It depends on what you’re going to use it for and what other mods you may be doing to accomplish your goals. If your car is sporting a 426 and you’re using a 30” tall drag tire to get that power to the track…. You better be going to the 3.09.

Yes, but in 2015+ the scat packs had 3.09s and people started swapping shortly thereafter :)

Did you switch back to the 2.62’s?

yes at beginning of the year. I may try them again now that I have the taller tires (315/50) on my car for the track 29.4

I switched and never looked back. The Charger ran 11.1, stock tune and about 4,700 lbs.

My redeye has the 2.62s and I couldn't imagine having deeper gears unless the car is basically on the track with drag tires all the time.

I ran drag radials after mine was tuned and street driven.

Didn't the Demon/Redeye 3.09 differential require the larger spline axles too? (This is precisely the kit Direct Connection is now selling and it basically says that). So wouldn't that imply there are "small axle" 3.09 diff's and "large axle" 3.09 diff's?

I think they both would bolt in but Demon version has better internals maybe??? Could just get THIS!

Yes, I honestly am not sure so I was just hoping to raise the point to a potential swapper that he may need to pay attention to the diff part numbers and make sure there is no axle compatibility concerns. I am still merrily riding around on my 2.62s but someday may try a swap, or at least add the parts to the collection :)

The Hellcat/Demon axle are all the same size. The Demon/Redeye axles are stronger. The Demon 3.09 has a different part number and something is different with it

Don't worry @Redeye426 I had the very 1st 309 Gears installed in my 2015 Hellcat Charger. I love them, sure you will need to learn how to finesse the launch. I f I can do it so can you!
309 Gears .......just waken up the Fun!

Linda :)

yea, something like $800 different based on the MMX pricing!?!? I'm guessing there isn't much mechanical difference, but maybe the $1900 unit was the actual Demon production part number so might be important for originality?

The diff splines are the same on the axles. Difference is in the CV & outward. They are the same length however and same at the wheel hub IIRC.

As such you can swap housings and never swap the axles. You can swap the axles from a demon/redeye into a 2.62 car. Any combination really will work as long as it is a scat/392/hellcat/HC WB/redeye/demon.

Demon/redeye/18 HC WB/etc 3.09 differentials were supposed to be of a higher strength alloy as well. Basically any car optioned for 3.09 got the demon guts & axles...widebody or not...and 18 WB cars optioned for 2.62 still got axles.

2.62 vs 3.09 just depends. I run the 315/50/17 with 910whp (MD unit) and the factory 2.62/factory axles. Some would say this is lunacy...but it's stayed together for 2 years now. 60's in the 1.5's and plenty of room left to go. It should be in the 1.3's and by that point I'm sure it'll be time for a Billet Diff or 9" anyway.
