Good decision to keep the Ram alive I think... unlike Fords F150 E.V.

I do like the torque rating for the Hurricane. Should do well in a truck and tow things nicely...but....there's a lot going on with the engine! Looks like a gazillion hoses/wires going everywhere on that engine. Seems like it'd be a nightmare to repair should something break.

If I were to get a Ram 1500 with that engine....I'd be super tempted to get the extended warranty and sell the truck right before the warranty expired!

Small displacement with high cylinder pressures = ??

To me, the engine output is low on the list for a tow vehicle. They could put a Hellephant in a 1500, and it's still only a 1500.

They're not going to be able to talk about how much it will tow?

Oh, they will, once it's gone through the very unrealistic J2807 test.

For whatever reason, that test concentrates largely on acceleration and being able to go fast up hills. I much prefer being able to stop quickly, and have enough braking power to be able to go down hills safely.

To me, a long wheelbase and a fair amount of weight is the ideal starting point.

The brakes on my 2500 are underwhelming to say the least.

They should be good. Maybe not bedded in correctly?
Either way, they're significantly larger than on a 1500.

Does not have the stopping power that I like.

Then there's something wrong. I'd try new pads after cleaning off the rotors really well.

By the way, how much do you want for that $12K trailer of yours?

You should try a Cummins. They do quite well for a straight Six, I think.

Even the detuned version in my cab and chassis does okay. But then, I have yet to exceed 39,000 lbs. total weight.

Had a '99 Ram 3500 dually w/ Cummins as my tow rig when I was racing - loved it except for some known electrical gremlins with the auto trans that I never could totally solve. Still in the family. I guess my context was not heavy towing, but more street type "1500" performance...

You mean that they should build a TRX?

(Speaking of marginal brakes)

I certainly didn't need one, but after checking out the size of the drivetrain parts after bringing my girlfriend's TRX home, it impressed me enough to order one for myself.

My official excuse was that it could come in handy in an unexpected snow storm, or for getting around a road closure.
And even with its measly 118 mph top speed, it's still a fun car, I think.

So Gator Dude (aka DavidKFla), I've had two pickups with crummy brakes.

With the first one, a GM dually, I had to hit the brakes hard on the way home (SoCal traffic) before bedding those brakes in.

Next was a Ram that a shop (don't ask) put the rotors back on with greasy gloves, then never cleaned the rotors afterwards.

Lastly, I've wondered for years what the goop that people spray onto tires does to the brakes. It seems like it gets on the wheels and then the sides of the body, but what does that crap do to the brakes?? It can't be good for them.
