Anyone see any downside to this magnet on oil filter?

Found this magnet in my tool box, it’s almost the width of the bottom of the oil filter. Any thoughts why attaching this might be a bad idea? I’m certain it’s strong enough to stay on, it’s just not one of those super strong rare earth types. Appreciate your thoughts, thanks.

It’s probably going to come off first time you get on it. I have some like that on the flat bottom of the Moroso steel oil pan on my Capri and they end up at the back edge and hanging off always. I run these on the cat and the capris oil filters. I have a super strong doughnut magnet on the bottom of my filter as well and even it moves around a bit. Wow! I thought they would stay secure. Interesting. Car won’t be coming out for some time so I’ve got a while to decide. Thanks 16. The thoughts of an anti-magneter in the link below:

They catch stuff, a slime like substance that is microscopic metal dust. Now wether or not the filter would catch it all if the magnet wasn’t there is another story. Me, I just want as much protection as possible, I want to see the metal if there is any not try and extract it from the filter, and don’t really care about the doubters and what they do with their engines right!!

I've been running a filter magnet on the Pete for years. It came with a tool to enable its removal. Yes, It's strong.

On that one I don't have a magnetic drain plug, so I wanted something on that expensive engine.

Why don't you just magnetize the filter?

I doubt it's physically possible to get even 1/100 of the magnetic field from a magnetized filter.

I've run magnet drain plugs before but not on the filter. Interesting.
