Are aluminum rods the preferred choice at ~1200hp?
No. They have super high end forged steel rods now that are way above that. The rod game for the Gen III Hemi has evolved in the last few years. We were going to use a one-off specially forged set of Manley I-beams until we made a deal with CP Carrillo on a new H-beam that they said would rate at 2500 @ 8500 rpm. Omg expensive (twice what those Manleys cost) but they have some design features and a metal composition that nobody else has. Got a deal with multiple sets with pistons so there was more than just my engine considered.

I will stick to my Oliver I made 2000 plus hp at 10,000 rpm in 2009. Never let me down

and let’s be real. Most stroked hemi’s use a 6.125 inch rod with a .927 small pin with a 2.100 crank pin. That’s a small block Chevy rod all day why try and invent something new.

True. The art of forging and metallurgy is a science and is applied by Oliver/Carrillo/Manley/Callies as demand requires. It gets expensive at the highest level and they’re not going to go there until there’s a market. It’s gotten to the point where there is now.

1250whp target and likely not over 7000rpm rev limit - how would you spec that out? You can DM that info if you'd like. I'm still in the research phase and looking at multiple builders short/long block combos to figure out what is needed.

I'm sure he's got 3 or 4 grinds in mind...but I've never once questioned a builder or tuner on cam specs. Ever. Nor have I allowed a cam I've had to be copied.

I might ask that we prioritize a specific area over another...but that's why I pay them. I'm not that guy...but I do wanna know what I'm buying and what i need to look out for.
