I’ve never had another car with a catch can, so I’m a little unfamiliar.

Pulled about 30ml out of my car today which probably had about 2k miles since I emptied it last 5 months ago or so.

Kind of surprised to see this much but I have zero frame of reference.

I have a 3.0 oz JLT catch can and on 3 different vehicles I have seen about that much oil at roughly the same mileage. I'd say that you're in the "normal" range.

Well......not you.......definitely not you......

But oil qty in the can wise......normal range.

It’s the only way guys like us communicate with eachother. If I don’t like you, I won’t even talk to you. If you’re my closest friend, you get to hear terms of endearment such as “Dumbass” or “Captain Dipshit”….

Ha obviously being a bit facetious but, when I left the military full time for the civilian world after 18 years, I had to change my vocabulary significantly!

Plus, we all know you don’t have any balls…:D

I was also a bit surprised to find my oil a little low. Same thing, probably changed the oil 2k miles/5 months ago. Drained the cooler, filled the filter before install per the FSM, then filled with 6 quarts.

Checked it today and the oil was at the absolute lowest portion of the “measuring” section of the dipstick.

I didn’t. Searched briefly before posting but didn’t find much.

What brand catch can? Some work better than others and catch every drop, like UPR units.

1 oz, 2k miles, your fine, not abnormal at all, especially if you run it hard which most M6 guys do 👍

BTW, use 7 Qts of oil not 6. Update to newer dipstick or mark your existing with a small nick in the wire made after a fresh change, fill, start, settle, mark the wire then.

I went to 6 this year being mine is full there and after watching engine masters about oil pans. If you get into windage you can loose oil pressure and hp. I think ideally you would need to have a 9 qt pan and run 7 qt

A good test would to be to run the car full out and watch the oil pressure. May have to try that now and add oil and see. I like having more capacity but at what point is it needed?

Also an engine on a dyno compared to accelerating isn't apples to apples either

Isn’t 7 Qts the recommended fill for 2018’s and up? Oil pan is the same to 15, 16, 17, just dipstick is different. Wasn’t there a TSB on 15-17’s to go to 7 Qts verse 6?

I do know if you buy a new dip stick for a '15 or '16, it will be the shorter 7 qt stick.

Yep I know the whole dipstick thing and had been running 7 quarts. Loss of of oil pressure is concerning not saying ours cars are having it though

Agree on oil pressure loss, especially at 6k WOT!! front sump/oil pickup pan design on the platform was a poor choice during original design, G force under acceleration puts the oil where you don’t want it, in the back of the pan flooding the crank. A bad thing but what would be worse is a uncovered oil pick up, I think that’s why they went to 7 Qts around 17-18, they must have learned something when testing the Demon but couldn’t change pick up and pan design so they took the cheap way out and added a extra Qt of oil as the fix lol
