There was a time when some dealers wouldn't accept them as trade ins.
I was helping my son find an inexpensive new car for college in 2000. We were at a local Oldsmobile/Hyundai dealership in Lansing (which was an Oldsmobile town at the time). I remember telling him in my sage dad voice, "Who knows if Hyundai will even exist in a few years?" Well, Olds is gone, and Hyundai sells like hotcakes. He ended up getting a Ford Escort ZX2 which served him well.

I bought a new 2023 Hyundai Sonata Limited ($35k). It is the highest quality, quietest, most comfortable car I’ve ever owned. 1.8 turbo is so quiet you can’t tell it’s running. Gets 36 mpg around town and 40 on the highway. The space aged gizmos are amazing. It has a camera feature that looks down from above like a drone when in reverse. How they do that is just astounding. I bought it off the lot a month ago and they gave me $1k off msrp with zero down / zero interest financing for 48 months and three years free service. 2DEF2A1C-84ED-4B1D-9F2B-2BFD0434AA82.jpeg F94A60E1-EC12-4897-8D56-CE071D70D144.jpeg 4962F553-DE02-4581-BE79-37754901D869.jpeg

The issue that I saw was the long term quality of the build and materials when I investigated a Genesis a few years back. Not sure if it's changed or not?

My neighbor had a Hyundai parked at his Summer condo in a parking garage a couple months ago and it caught fire while he was out of town. It burnt down completely! The (concrete) garage was not damaged.

I have probably owned as many cars in my time as anybody and I can tell you that this thing is as high quality as anything I’ve seen. I was wanting a comfortable daily driver for the wife and something we can take on road-trips to see the family that gets good mpg without going electric. We’ve just about run my poor Ram 2500 into the ground. 96,000 miles in a little over three years getting 18 mpg on diesel 🫤. I looked at a number of cars. I won’t buy anything GM (I have my reasons). From a hands-on feel and driving experience… nothing else compared. That included Toyota. It has a 100k warranty so….

We've had bad cars from Toyota and GM. A couple of lemon law cars.

I’m not a promoter for Hyundai. I just did a fair amount of comparing with my ass in a number of different cars and this thing won. Plus the warranty and price with free money financing, I didn’t see anything that compares. Because my truck is less than economical when it comes to long distance trips, I have used rental cars a number of times. I’ve had the opportunity to try out mid sized cars from Toyota, Nissan, Ford and GM. I felt all of the GM stuff was junk. I got to play with the new features like lane assist, collision avoidance and cruise control. I found them annoying. Not in this Hyundai. Very sophisticated by comparison. Anyway…. The Limited I got has every bell and whistle they’ve got and it all works. It’s like riding in a magic carpet. Then there’s my Hellcat 😝

Her Lexus E350 sport super dupper limited edition lasted less than a year. Our ATS Cadillac was lemon lawed. She had a Subaru and it was junk. VW CC was fun but when we went to turn it in, VW had completely changed their quality. Mercedes is now junk so that's out.

If it works for you. I was in high school when a friend said he wanted one . I had no idea what it was. This was back in mid 80s when they came out

I used to flip a bunch of them back in the 90s. Great 1st time cars. Accel, 4 speed no options, low miles for around $2K.

That little toy box came out pretty good considering it did a flip 10 feet in the air and came down on its roof. Trucks with that kind of wheel package are just retarded.
