Parked along side the road 😳

Driving home from Home Depot this morning…. And there just sitting along side the road with traffic driving by. In case you don’t recognize this for what it is….. a real altered wheelbase 1965 Plymouth drag car. There was nobody there and I crawled all around it. I’m guessing he ran out of gas in that 2 gallon moon tank in the grill. 🤯

This thing had acid dipped fenders and aluminum bumpers from what I could tell. It appeared to be the real deal that was restored. Most today do not remember or recognize what these things were in the sixty’s. The term funny car came from these altered wheelbase Mopars. Both the front and rear wheels are moved forward for weight transfer. These were factory sponsored drag cars at the highest level back in the day. That’s a “real” Hemi in there btw

I know there was a company a while back making repros of the altered wheelbase Mopars of the 60’s. Even those where painfully expensive. Wonder if that’s one of them? Beautiful car either way.

Most likely a reproduction as there were only a handful of the real ones. But…. This thing was faithful to the era originals in its restoration. Even had harvest gold interior 😂

I probably would have crapped myself if I saw that thing sitting there like that. Personally, I wouldn't have left it there. I woulda made a phone call. But to each his own. Hope the car is safe now.

Actually, in Washington County Utah (St George) Yes. Lol. They don’t have smog inspections (or any other inspections that I’ve ever had to do). I was driving my 1500hp Hellcat in full drag setup (chute, wheelie bars, etc) and never got stopped, so the cops here are hotrod friendly. He was probably coming from one of our support public safety car shows. We do that here. 😉

Fenner Tubbs is out here, in Lubbock (or Lub-buttocks, as some say). I personally would not have left that at the side of the road. Assholes will fuck with it, and take pictures up in the wheel wells and like that...

Yeah I found all the pictures of the real car running in its different evolutions back in the ‘60’s. 99% chance that this is a throwback reproduction of that car. But… it was the real deal as far as being a altered wheelbase ‘65 Hemi OMG. I agree that leaving it parked on a busy street and just sitting there like that was pretty surreal. If I didn’t have my wife impatiently sitting there wondering what was wrong with me, I would have stayed just to find out what was going on. I’ve been here for a while and have never seen it before. There’s some pretty hot stuff that shows at the frequent car shows. I’ll be looking forward to making some in the future with mine and maybe see this again.

Haha. That’s pretty much what happened. I slammed on the brakes so hard to make a right turn into the bank parking lot next to where it was parked, the dog flew between the front seats and ended in my wife’s lap. He’s 60 lbs. She yelled WTF and I was just saying “did you see that!

Ok I found it! It is a “one of a kind” A/FX all steel replica that was listed new at the 2010 Mecum Auction in Indy. It didn’t sell. 472ci/671hp Hemi with “modern” EFI that looks “antique “. 727 Torqueflight with 4.56 gears.

I need to move to Utah. Left NY 35 years ago and NJ 5 years ago. If that was on the Cross Bronx Expressway or the BQE it wouldn't have lasted 30 seconds.

Hope it made it home safely and I would not have left it on the side of the road if it was mine
