I'm thinking about running a 28/10.5/15 MT ET Drag.

Does anyone use them and have you heard of any pros and cons?

Regards,
Colby

M/T and Hoosier make a radial slick. I would look into them over the bias ply slicks. Car would be more stable. @DRAGRCR runs the Hoosiers

I was thinking about trying 28.5/10/15 and do some small tire events.

Which size would you recommend?

@DRAGRCR what are your thoughts?

You asking about on the street? Sidewall construction is not set up for that; cornering is for shit even at a basic level, and more fun into the bargain. Never done it myself but have seen people do it. Waste of the tire to me, in addition to the illegality.

If you're talking at the track, I dont think you can go wrong w a MT product as long as you listen to them about application parameters.

ET Drag? That is a bias ply tire. I would not reccomend that at all. Both Hoosier and MT offer race drag radials in that size. Hoosier Drag Bracket Radial and MT Pro Bracket Radial.

I just ordered the radial slick. 29.5 x 10.5 x 17 from Hoosier. They are to be mounted on the 17 x 10 d5 beadlock rims. I will let you know in a few weeks if I get traction.

does your car get loose on the top end at speeds over 140? I am hearing slicks (not radials) move our heavy cars around a lot.

I ran them all last season, car never got loose at 130MPH but I'm switching back to the MT Street ET R's purely for track convenience. I noticed that if the track has any grease/water/oil on you might get some pucker up moments but if a track is prepped good I enjoyed that little extra hit I could give the drive train, also ran the bias ply's up front (mixing bias play and radials up front is not a good experience). Look forward to hearing your take, once I get to Florida I will run them to/from the track.

Agreed and I have always heard, slicks have really no margin for error. But radials do because of the rounded outside of the tire and not a 90 degree. Thus once you get highsided on slicks....<pray> but radials will self correct <if that makes sense>.

I run radials up front and have always heard, bias ply tires up front are no bueno :)

I ran Hoosier slicks for a while. They seem to be more forgiving for prep, but not by much. I ran the 28x10 Hoosier on Weld 17x10 wheels on my old M6 and the Hellcat for a while. The car will feel wallowy a bit and you have to get used to that, even with a proper bias ply tire up front mine still felt a bit wallowy.

I've liked the radial MUCH better (MT ET Street R) and the car feels much more stable. I've had my best 60' with the ET Street R as well.

Exactly my experiences as well. Thats why I reccomended agains them (above). Regardless of what front tires one has.

yep. I have played the bias ply game with every combo. On said car once it had radials on it, it was like driving down the highway. I would only run a radial, plus they will be faster. That has been proven

Slicks I ordered are radials. On you tube there was an example of running the Mickey Thompson more aggressive drag radial which I have and the new Hoosier slicks. The Hoosier was faster.

IMO, please do a search here or on the old forum. To cut to the chase, just run drag radials. I tried slicks, it sucked, like many have said, car was all over the track on the back end. I won the Hellcat shootout at Maplegrove a few years ago because I used Phasthemi tires and wheels. I was running slicks and they were almost 0.5 seconds slower and the car was sketchy

I run the Hoosier DR2, technically a "Drag radial", about as close to a slick as I have run, I like it in a 325/45 combo...no prob at over 140 thru traps.

Hey Colby,
Slicks seem to work ok with the 6 speed cars.

I have always tried to talk people out of Slicks for our cars.
My husband John had the MT ET Rs ordered back in 2015. He waited months for them to be on the shelves. They were the 4th set of DRs I tried and by far the Best.
As Top Cat he posted about them and at the MSHS races he let others know about how well they hooked.
Many of those racers switched over and loved them too.
Linda :)

Agree with you Linda on MT. My favorite tires by far. We have been using MT ET Pro 315/60/15 and worked out great.

But with so many small tire events going on...I was thinking about trying slicks and run a 28" tire. But slicks are not really an option.

Need to find another 28" tires with tons of sidewall an at least a 315 or maybe 325, thus 13" of tread.

I will post when I run the radial slicks on or about the middle of March and will give an honest assessment. These are not the slicks of the past. They are radials. I have been out of the race scene for seven months as Jim click dodge dropped my drivers side front from the lift. The entire side of the drivers side was replaced along with the front spoiler and bumper along with a new transmission, driveshaft, and axles. I am still waiting on the driveshaft and axles from dss. A tow truck backed in to stabilize my car and tire holes in the axle boots. A 10 point frame analysis was done by two independent sources and that came back great. Including rental cars and parts and labor some where north of 35k in payouts. Plus when the final bill goes to their insurance company I am expecting a hefty diminished value check. A nightmare.
