Girlfriend has a 2006 Mustang with the 4.0L SOHC. Got it from a friend of hers for a decent deal because the transmission is going out. Bought a second transmission, and installed it. No go. Reinstalled first one. Also, no go.
Steps taken:
Completely and safely removed the transmission. WITHOUT leaving torque converter bolted to block.
Completely reseated torque converter before install.
I know with the ford Transmissions, they’ve got that weird 3 steps down process. Double checked seating with a level across the entire front mating surface to guarantee its well seated. (As best I could, anyway.)

without the drivetrain all bolted in, the transmission rolls through gears. With the rear end buttoned up and bolted on, the thing can’t move under its own power.
My first thought is that either the pump is bad, or the torque converter is bad. All lines were plumbed, no leaks, fresh fluid, filter, and gasket.

I’m hoping someone will be able to chime in.

Did you check rear end and make sure it has no issues? Is the same torque converter for both trans? I always have TC checked if reusing.

Did you check rear end and make sure it has no issues? Is the same torque converter for both trans? I always have TC checked if reusing.
Rear end is all good. Within spec, I’ve tried three torque converters. Which is what leads me to believe something internal with the transmission.

OP - i'd take it to a transmission shop.

Something weird is up and they probably know whats wrong with it.

CC....never mind this my winnies bigger than yours thing ya got goin on with Jimmie...you gotta help TMANN...after all...you owe it to him...ya single handedly got him to quit his job @ the parts store..move in to a commune and sell pork chops door to door...C'mon man...help the kid out...don't turn yer back on him now...:cry:

Any lights on dash?

Flow through the cooler seemed okay. First time installing let me blast a decent quart or so out before the girlfriend mentioned, “the pink stuff splashing around on the floor.
No lights on the dash, either.

Top end worth messing with?? Bottom end fine and wide?? Getter dun.
Apparently these 4.0L engines are decently well built. Some people have seen almost 600hp out of built variants. So I’m curious what it’ll do for a first build drag car for a beginner girl. She wants to learn, so I figure we’ll start with a V6. And then add power to that. Once that blows, Coyote swap it and go complete drag build for her. If she keeps an interest in it.

You absolutely sure TC went all 3 steps in? It would sit BELOW flush with outer housing.
Full three steps. Sits a little over 1/4 inch below flush.
