Looking to Tune / Modify my PCM. Basic question.....Is it possible to make ANY software changes to the PCM with out unlocking it first?..and DO I have to send it to HP Tunners to unlock it or can I unlock it myself using HP Tuners software & credits?

You need to send it out - it needs to be unlocked on a bench in order to force it into recovery mode to change the bootloader

Thanks Unholy....you see where Im heading with this...looking at obtaining The hardware to do myself...just confirming all that Ive read & heard from different people...(you know whom Im speaking about - NOT YOU) . When I execute this - if I need advise...I may ask you

Im actually using it to turn alarms and modules off - NOT change tune settings in the engine.

Some of the bells and whistles are accessible with AlfaOBD program, but you will need a security bypass cable for 2018 up.

Mine is still locked but the alfa connected. Wish I new more about it. I was trying to add adaptive cruise to an awd and enable all the features through alfa. Seems possible, just need some parts

No, the industry keeps that a tight secret. Needs to be opened up on the bench, and leads connected to certain pins for software to be able to pull down/write the entire OS. HP tuners changes the boot loader so that you can do this via obd2 port to change the calibration. Can use a Ktag, but you need to know what bits HPT flips specifically for their software. So if you’re starting new with this, you need to bench read an already unlocked pcm and use what they have for the bootloader and change that in yours after you bench read, or change just the vin and write that entire read to yours (all on the bench) You can change the vin this way too.

You’re basically causing a fault/tripping a safety mechanism which then allows you to pull everything down.

Alfa is mostly BCM and other modules, still need to modify pcm to turn things off
