Hey everyone, I'm a new Hellcat owner. I just bought the 2021 Charger Hellcat Redeye. What gas stations do you guys recommended for the highest quality premium gas?

I live in Cleveland, Ohio. I've been using Speedway gas for years in my cars but I don't think they're good enough for the Hellcat. I've always heard good things about the quality of Shell and BP. Does it just come down to preference? Thanks.

I have been using Mobil for the most part and BP and Shell are good also. I don't know if one is better then another. I was a die hard Shell using for a long time until they decided to raise their price of premium to .74 more then regular. My BP was only .60 more until covid hit. Last time I went it was .80 more so I stopped going their. I will check once in awhile but it hasn't come down. So for me price matters on those 3.
A guy that was tracking knock on his tuned scat pack had found BP was the best. Could be other factors going on though. Not sure if you can go wrong with any tier 1 gas station. Even costco is tier 1

The cleanest station with equipment in good repair.... that gets lots of traffic/turnover.

ALL gas is the same. The only difference is the couple of squirts of the ‘magical goo’ (detergent) each producer utilizes. The part that burns, all the same.

The above is why the condition/traffic the station gets is key. Anyone who tells you any different doesn’t know how it works.

The best way to know for sure is track/dyno but datalogging knock retard will also give useful information. In my area the "best" is BP and Shell was one of the worst.

Shell 93 for me but some truth to the above that all gas is basically the same. We buy fuel and oil products through a major distributor and I've seen their trucks unloading at different brand gas stations

I have this vague memory of one of our members doing some data logging and came up with a theory that fuel without additives (such as the Shell
Premium) actually ran better.

My experience is that everything I've run will result in some STK, and I could only get rid of it (almost) with a blend of ~25% or so of race fuel

If you have a Costco nearby, that's what I use. Top Tier, newer equipment, VERY high traffic/turnover (seriously there's a tanker there like every other day), and at least around here their 93 is priced the same as everyone else's 89 in the area.

Congratulations on your new car!

I looked into the gas question and found an article a year or so ago that had information on what is referred to as Top Tier fuels. Supposedly what is called Top Tier is an industry standard for quality, and detergent additives, and apparently has become the industry's guiding reference. I copied the list. Notably absent is Kroger supermarket gas stations. I always meant to call Kroger and ask if their gas was Top Tier "certified", but I'd probably get a, "Huh?" response. Anybody?

Top Tier Gasoline Retailers
76, Aloha Petroleum, Amoco, ARCO, Beacon, BP, Breakaway, Break Time, Cenex, Chevron, CITGO, Conoco, Costco, CountryMark, Diamond Shamrock, Entec, Esso, Express Mart, Exxon, Fast Fuel, HFN, Hele, Holiday, Kwik Star, Irving, Kirkland Signature, Kwik Star, Kwik Trip, Marathon, Metro Petro, MFA, Mobil, Ohana Fuels, Phillips 66, PUMA, QT, Quik Trip, Road Ranger, Shamrock, Shell, Sinclair, Sunoco, SuperAmerica, SuperFuels, Texaco, Valero, Value America, Wow, and Win Win.

It was said here to try and buy gas where Premium sells so the premium tank doesn't get stale.

If you really want to sharp shoot your Hellcat's highest octane level at the pump I also read this tip. Wait until your tank is below half, preferably down to one quarter, before refilling. This to avoid dilution of your Premium gas with lower octane gas remaining in the hose and nozzle from a previous customer. Better yet, invite your Corvette buddy to fill up first with Premium and let his car suffer diluted fuel *grin*!

This. Don't bother with the "magic" additive bullshit.

I use 91 Shell with Boostane and its not BS. IMVHO. Benefit proven through data logging and tuning.

Boostane is not a refinery / distributor added additive, which is what I am referring to, it's something the owner buys. That, and Octanium (my personal preference) are different and do add octane numbers.

Class action lawsuit against Shell (about) 15 years ago or so, due to additives gumming up fuel sensors.
That being said, I now use Shell, Wal-Mart, or whichever 93 is cheapest.

Some people like to stay away from fuels with hi ethanol levels
Seals, rubber gaskets etc
Typically the higher octane fuels contain more ethanol
I m not a chemist but
I know my 2 stroke snowmobile engines love it just before they grenade

Gotta think logically.

what your noticing is reflective of two factors..... a) there are only a few major refiners b) most of the names up there must buy gas from marketers.

I work for Phillips66, and approximately 50% of our revenue comes from "unbranded marketing". Mean we sell to the Costcos, Quick Trips, and the like. They brand it as their own. This is true with not only fuels, but also motor oils and other lubricants.

Also worth noting that one company may have multiple brand names the sell under as their own. Legacy brand names.... or regional brands...

Using us as an example, our very own fuels are branded as our own under: 76, Conoco, Phillips66, Jet (European brand), etc. Add to that all the unbranded marketing and although you may not recognize our brand, hate our guts, or even swear off buying from us, you pretty much can’t avoid buying our fuels... And we don’t give a shit what name you buy us under, just buy us.

Think of it like this.... for any given brand of fuel or motor oil.... "is there a refinery?” With nearly every name on that list the answer is "No".... There is no Quick Trip refinery. Where the heck did what you were buying come from? Since there is no Quick trip refinery, they had to get it from someplace. The question is “where?”

So @Finface if the pump motor is off, the valve (which is before the drain/supply hose) is closed, gravity allows most of if not all of the fuel to drain out, right? I don’t remember anytime when I picked up a gas nozzle and more than a few drops came out before inserting into my car, do you? Where is this mysterious dilution taking place? @sad you have a drawing or flow diagram of a gas pump?
