Had a conversation with a good friend (older gentleman) that bleeds Mopar. He's a successful business owner that drag raced Hemi's for over 40 years. He decided to finally pull the trigger on ordering a '21 Redeye. We were discussing the differences between the 2.62 and 3.09 rears when he was going through the ordering process. I didn't have all the info I needed to talk with any type of authority on the matter. From my understanding the DS and axles are from the Demon. Something about an 8 puck set up compared to a 6 that I'm not sure what that means. Is the differential totally different between the two? Is that the only difference? He decided to order the 3.09 but never plans on drag racing the car so I'm not sure if it's all that beneficial on the street compared to the 2.62 that I have in mine.

I believe all parts are the same between the 2.62 and 3.09s other than the actual gears inside of the differential. As far as the supporting drivetrain parts being the same as the Demon, I also believe that is the case.

I was under that impression as well but now I have doubts from what I'm hearing from others. I'd like to get someone with enough knowledge to set the record straight between the two. I've tried searching but not much luck.

I feel like I made a mistake when I ordered 3.09s on my REWB.

I've heard that the welding is different inside, but then also heard that wasn't true.

Truth??

As for ratio, it seems most believe the 3.09s are the way to go, UP TO A CERTAIN POWER LEVEL. But what is that power?

I know that if I ever order a RE, it will be with the 3.09s.

.02 only

Here is the info I was able to find out on this option on my 19 RE. The 2:62 gear RE has the standard axles and driveshaft from the Hellcat. The 3:09 option upgrades the axles and driveshaft to Demon parts. I have cross referenced all part numbers on my car and can prove that the RE has Demon parts with the 3:09 gears. No one has yet proved by a picture that the part numbers on there 2:62 geared RE is the Demon parts(axles and Driveshaft).

My original 2.62 '19 RE came stock w the Demon part # driveshaft. I never checked the axles. This was discussed on the old site:

I want to say it has been confirmed that the 2.62 cars have all the same parts, don't have a link to share right now though.

Most but not all.;)
My diff is getting tired so I may try a 3.09 to prove me right or wrong.

My 2.62 redeye was quicker in the 1/4 then two 3.09 Redeyes same day same track. The 3.09s seem to 60ft better and are quicker in the 1/8. The 2.62 seems to be quicker in the 1/4 and mph. At least from what I have seen.

Not sure if this is the same as what you are mentioning on the 6 or 8 puck issue.

But the standard Hellcat has or had originally only 6 balls in the CV's on the rear diff axles while when the Demon's/Redeye's came out they have 8 balls in their CV's.

I thought there's been quite a few that changed from the 262's to the 309's already.....you'd think if there was a difference in the two (aside from ratios) - there would be additional parts required to swap RE gears. I've yet to hear anyone mention additional (Demon) parts needed. Even if the dealer installed the gears, the parts used should be on the receipt...no?

.309 Redeye more pedal room down low under 70mph. The .262 really rips 60 and up. I was out in the charger yesterday morning was like low 20s temp tires heated up.. blew the tires away twice effortlessly stabbing WOT in track mode sport traction from a 60 roll.. when’s it’s under 40 degrees outside these cars make stupid power. It’s crazy the difference when it’s over like 70 degrees outside the hellcat feels like it loses 100 plus wheel hp.. from timing the computer cuts

Not true. The Redeye's have the Demon drivetrain.

As far as I know you can put just the diff center section in from the Demon/ Redeye without changing anything else.
The Demon Drive Shaft will fit between all of the 15 & up SRT's as long as they have an automatic trans and the Demon axles will fit also as the spline that goes into the diff is still the same just that they have 8 balls in the CV's instead of only 6.

So in short, all the parts will work with each other.

My Hellcat is quicker in the 1/8 and 1/4 with a higher mph than than the 3.09 cars I have run against that are running similar times to me.
even if I give up .01-.02 in the 60'.
the difference may show up more when the 2.62 car owner can't get a decent 60' with the car.
Same day, same tire I have seen them .1 slower 60' than mine mine. Those may see a gain with a 3.09;)

I've has a 3.09 chunk in the corner of my garage I was going to put in my Hellcat for over a year. After much discussion with friends and and smart folks on this subject matter, it still sits in the corner. :)
