When I first started driving gas was .89 cents a gallon for 87 octane. It was that same exact price at every station all the way to when I was in college. Somewhere in the mid 90s I remember the price started to move around and started going up. What changed?

I personally think an item as critical as fuel shouldn't have its price dictated by jumpy investors.

Ya that two swipes of the credit card sucks! I haven’t had to do it in a while. My Silverado fill up is less than $60 now
And here I was quite happy when diesel prices fell enough so that a month ago I could fill up my 3500 with only two swipes.

Adding to the joy of the three card swipes was that Amex kicked out after the first two $100, so had to use another card for the last portion. And that was often just two or three gallons.

Why stubbornly fill it all the way on a windy winter day? Because I like to keep track of the mileage.

Don't justify your position. If someone takes offense to your opinion it is because they likely identify with it.

It will be interesting to see how all the auto makers including Tesla weather this with their big electric car push. Your average joe doesn't give a crap about electric cars or climate change if gas is well under 2 bucks a gallon.

I'm positive. If I have something to say to you then I do it in person and not on the internet. I'd rather deal with a good ole fashion fist fight then a internet pissing match .

Are we turning this into a capitalism vs socialism debate. Prices are what people will pay. It’s like we wonder how awful politicians keep getting re-elected. Voters look at thier politician as being ok, it’s everybody else's politician that’s bad. It’s all in people’s positions on issues. For those of us in winter states, go sit in ur cars, like in those commercials and VRUUMM - VRUUMM A LITTLE... Get rid of cranky...lol

I’m done explaining it. This will be the last.

"Big Oil" doesn’t own gas stations (at least in my case). Nor does Big Oil set the price at the pump. Price at the pump is set by whomever owns that gas station. Local, small business owners. <- Do you really hate them as much as you hate big, evil corporations?

The price at the pump goes up (even tho what they have stored in their underground tanks was purchased earlier at a lower price) due to speculation and fear of uncertain geopolitical issues that affect supply.

You have nothing to explain . You posted your point of view as I posted mine . Btw I spoke to the owner of the gas station I post the above picture on and they do not set their own prices at the pumps . Head office sets all pump prices . Petro can which is owned by suncor ...... Big oil !

I remember paying 29 cents for a large loaf of Wonder bread, now I pay 3.99. Are they also bad. We talk about what we pay for gas, maybe the govt needs to eliminate gas guzzlers so that there is more gas at lower price points. How about the insurance companies? Why don’t we complain about high liquor & wine prices. If govt starts controls, where does it end. Competition & consumption drive prices. Look at what the internet did to prices... Just offering my thoughts on this and not meant as a personal attack on anybody.

I remember leaded Sunoco 260 (Approx 102 octane) in the 60s. I was paying 30-40 cents a gal. Those were the days....
I can remember riding in the back seat of my parents ‘55 Chevy and Dad always asking the attendant for, “Two dollars worth of regular.” That would just about fill it up.

Once I started driving in ‘68, there were some gas station price wars where regular got down to 19 cents a gallon. Yep, I’m a fogey.

In my moms g-body we would get $5 in gas, because it’s all we could afford... wasn’t filling the tank just keeping the fumes topped off.

Wow!! all the way down to 3.59!! Don't make too much noise about it or your State Legislature will swear it's time for another gas tax increase.

I feel sorry for people that live in high tax states. Here in North FL, we are at $1.93 for regular.

I am on a little “road trip” again this weekend (not in a Challenger). Damn gas spread in three States seems like $0.40-$0.50 per gallon. Pays to shop around!
Yes, definitely. I've been using software to do that for years. Can save some coin that adds up.
