Use the 4 pin, it is the most common relay you will find.

Can I install the relay in the passenger compartment, or must it be in the engine compartment?

You can put the relay wherever you want. I've found these that I like that have a built in fuse for a cleaner setup. Also remember your activation switch will go inline to the trigger on the relay.

Thanks Speedy. The harness already has a 15A inline fuse already installed. Thank you. PS. I love your new ride, glad it worked out as well as it possibly could, other than the emotional attachment to GoManGo.

@2ndAmend so I’m good with my description above? Just want to be certain. Thanks
The number of pins does not matter, use the ones you need. I think the 5-pin might be the most common these days.

Just use 30 and 87 for the lights, one connected to +12v (fused), the other to the lights.

Use 85 and 86 for the switching coil. Normal would be for the switch to provide +12v to one and the other connected to ground.

When you hit the switch, 85 and 86 will energize the coil and the relay will close the contacts connecting 30 and 87.

Let me finish your quote:

But there are so many crappy descriptions and diagrams out there that it will make anyone second guess. So many make a simple thing very confusing.

DC is fun and easy, until you get a ground loop (current flowing in the wrong direction) hence the need for diodes.

Waaay easier than AC, no need for J factors and imaginary numbers! :)
