Thanks to those that posted issues with supercharger belts. I was enjoying multiple liesurely drives around Sebring International this weekend and broke a supercharger belt at 16171miles, 25 months in service. which popped a P012B code Saturday afternoon. Still runs, but goes into limp mode and gives you about 1100 rpm. I had acquired a spare Gates HD Green belt and had it with me, just in case. Wish I would've had my serpentine belt tool kit, but it is doable with a long 3/8 ratched and a wrench for the SC belt tensioner. The accessory belt has to come off to install the SC belt and three hands (and a search for a belt diagram) is good for that task. Since I had the belt I was back in the game fairly quickly.
Supercharger belt Gates #K100579HD Motion Industries in Braselton GA, for only $43.88
Ran fine today and the CEL went away quickly. Sure surprised a lot of Corvette and Porsche guys!

Belt tool

Oh, these types.

I found the issue to be threading the belt itself into position, not the pulleys or hardware.

I thought you had some vu-doo tool for getting the belt threaded.

Mine will just waste the supercharger or bearings. Good for you, yours got off easy.

There were a variety of them, that's just a random one I selected, no endorsement intended...

No worries, I will be hoping for the best! At least it was fairly cheap...

I think I got mine from Harbor Freight. Works fine.
Yes, routing the accessory drive belt is a challenge, had to get a diagram off the web as you can't really see the pulleys from the top.
Does anyone know a recommended interval for belt change? I am going with 10-15000 miles or 2 yrs!

I'm at 2 years and 18k miles, Ordered a belt yesterday along with the tool ;) Funny I recently asked my dealer/service advisor about changing the belt, they were like huh? We never change those...

They tell me that there is an interesting “harmonic” that develops at high RPM’s between the belts. May not be so much in the wear arena. I hope that helps to change the big one every so often. I guess mine has been changed at 5000 and about at 10000 now, so i hope to have a trouble free supercharger year in 2022. Yes, I plan on testing it extensively! I have some time to make up from the time I lost getting car and body repairs this season! @SIXGUN we will be in touch continuing to compare notes my friend. Glad you fixed it quickly.

I'm surprised that the green belt broke, is this that common ?...some other issue with it breaking ?
I thought they would last for around 50k miles at least.
I still have the stock belt on at 10k miles, so wondering when I should change it now ?

@DGatzby do you mean between the supercharger belt and the serpentine belt?
Yes. They say the black SC belt won’t. But, Dodge won’t back the black belt (warranty). Twice they had to put the green one on and not what I requested. Dealer had no choice.

On the road courses we maintain the RPM’s high and you succeeded in making it cry Uncle!

So they warranty the green belt? I did not think they would warranty belts. I just fixed it myself, but have learned about the RPM belt and am thinking of trying one of those belts.

The green belts are stiffer and could be why they are breaking. Still surprises me since there is a tensioner so there is some give.

Sure. Why not? Does the maintenance schedule say to change it every 5000 miles?;) But they better not catch you with the wrong one.

So mine's a stock 2015 HC.

What part number belt is recommended, for my application?

This is something I NEED to do. May aswell do both, while I'm at it.

Lemme know...

Bob

Let's go, Brandon!

Part number should be on the belt. I don't think it is a bad idea to replace them both being the age of the car
