Cooling Temps / Lowering temps

I’m curious if anyone has been doing any modifications to keep the coolant temp down. Seeing it around 217-221 just seems a bit high even if it is normal. Granted the fans always turn on and cool it down but I feel like it’s happening more often now I’d love to hear what you guys have been doing or if anything is even necessary. I know about the killer chiller system but idk if all that is really necessary of if there is other stuff.

That's normal but if you want to lower it, you need a 180 thermostat and a PCM tune.

Summertime use the 180 and change back to the 204 when the weather cools down no need for a tune and it’s easy to swap the tstat out I tested this when mine was stock no fault codes

Without a tune it wont keep the temps at 180 unless you're traveling at highway speeds. The fans have to be reprogrammed to turn on earlier.

True but unless your stuck in traffic
But overall it will run cooler mine did and I didn’t have a tune at that time I was also able to cool it down at the track with the burnbox

I had the same feelings as you about temps in my 2017 Charger. I did the 180 degree thermostat swap last year, without doing any retuning, and my car threw the P0128 code and the check engine light almost immediately. This code relates to the car "not warming up fast enough." I swapped the original thermostat back in that same day.

My 2015 model rolls down the road at 185 like clockwork. Doesn't matter if it's 80° or 100° outside.... if I'm moving it stays at 185. Get into some traffic and it starts to go up some, but just depends on how long you're in traffic. I have to be in bumper to bumper traffic for quite a while for it to go over 210 to 215°

Only time I have ever seen mine that high is when I let it sit and idle waiting for the fans to come on. Mine is in the low 200's

I too run a 180 tstat without a tune, car is definitely cooler almost all the time, and I've never thrown a code.

I do swap the stock 203 back in every fall and then put the 180 in for the warm season. Very easy swap to do mechanically.

My 2015 Challenger hit 221 in traffic, fans came on and down it went. Never an issue (although a bit alarming the first few times it happened).

My 2019 Redeye never goes above 200

Have you guys every tried adding Water Wetter in with your coolant? It made a huge difference in cooling a Honda CRF300L motorcycle I have. Heat on the right side of the engine was very uncomfortable when stock. I added Water Wetter's premixed 50/50 antifreeze solution with their Water Wetter product premixed in and it made the heat on the right side of the engine much better. My right leg is much happier now.

Depending on your climate maybe you could get by using less coolant and more water to carry off more heat. Perhaps a 60/40 or 70/30 water/coolant mixture?

This thread interests me because, as I mentioned in another thread, my car will need to idle for long periods of time while my wife waits for me at the doctor on a regular basis. We live in Houston and it gets really hot in the summer. When I get the car I might try adding Water Wetter and/or changing the coolant/water mixture if it runs too hot.
