To not think, and obey the computer.
He actually said, Mopar tells us no, but the FORUMS say it is okay. Of course I said, because we are correct and have the experience together, hey just go look at the filter you are removing and tell me what it is.

That is fine, it will be the last time. I don’t give a damn how tough it is going to be to get to that filter, I’ll be changing the oil myself.

What is an "SRT" oil filter?
Which one did the dealer want to use?

I checked the invoice for my recent oil change, the dealer used part #4884899AC for the oil filter.

So I went to MoparPartsGiant.com and looked up the oil filter for my '22 Durango SRT 392 6.4, it's the exact same one the dealer used:

Yep, we know this. That is the little black ugly one that our Hellcats come from the factory with also. It is always so tight you need a breaker bar to get them off.

In ten years of hellcats and ten years using my 2006, never purchased one of those.

You do not want to see my “invoice” for what they charged me yesterday for the one on my truck.

Okay, so I did a search for "SRT Oil Filter" and found this thread:
https://bobistheoilguy.com/forums/threads/use-mopar-srt-oil-filter-for-5-7l-hemi.337705/

filter2.jpg

The SRT engineers said the SRT filter was used for the Viper. They go on to say:
"For track-day use, SRT engineers suggest using the SRT oil filter (part number 05038041AA). Originally designed for Viper applications, it works great with all Chrysler V8 engines. The SRT filter features a higher differential pressure bypass valve and reduced pressure loss across the filter element."

So the SRT engineers suggested using the SRT oil filter for track use, but didn't say it was otherwise required.

Required? Nada. However this is why some of us like it…

The dealer charged me $8.95 USD for the #4884899AC oil filter.

Up until now, I never even heard of an "SRT Oil FIlter".

Seeing how dealers like to upsell everhtying, I'm surprised they never offered it. :ROFLMAO:

We need to catch you up, you only been with us about a year. Most of us simply have alerted each other here in the Forum when the price on Amazon falls so we can stock up.

I'm still surprised my dealer never mentioned this was available when I went in for an oil change.
