On strictly a street car, does a harness bar offer any more occupant safety protection over the factory belt and airbag system? I can’t imagine it would, unless you drive around wearing a helmet and Hans Device.

Interesting question and depending on the crash probably safer but the resale of the car is now an issue. You would have to put it back to original Safety Standards.

A Harness Bar provides a place for the Safety race Harness belts to hook up properly, which would keep you in place for the kind of racing like Auto X racing.

@DGatzby may have an opinion on this.

Linda :)

A few months ago I was playing around on the 241 freeway at 5:00 am. I took the car up to 130/140 with no one around. I then saw big chunks of semi tire strewn all over the hyway. Oh Boy. I managed to swerve around all the pieces. Glad I had the shock tower braces and frame brace, and I was in sport mode. That helped a lot. My big problem was, i was moving around in the seat way too much and that scared me. A harness bar with proper harness would have made life much easier. Just sayin.

Yes Linda, thanks. I’m wondering about real world experience for a street only ride.
Excellent point Mike, that’s a real world example why it would be beneficial.

Agree that harness bar and safety multipoint harness is much more secure, but it would depend on the supporting points (ie a cage) to significantly provide increased safety overall.

I suppose securing the body so firmly to the seat, harness bar assembly, would transfer all that energy into the neck. Whereas slower deceleration against the oem seatbelt and airbag would reduce that whiplash effect. Obviously the Hans device helps with that, but is not applicable to the street.

Cops could write you a ticket for using a harness bar on the street. Most do not have the required safety ratings.

Harnesses with the factory seats are LESS safe.

Its not possible to get belt placement and angles correct/safe without an aftermarket seat specifically designed for harnesses.

Harness bar confirmed as being out for numerous reasons. Thanks sad.
