Yeah, it certainly didn't happen in real life.

That Vette could not have beat that max wedge even if it fell off a cliff.

Max Wedge was king of the streets in '64,'65. Nothing could touch it.

Take it from someone who was 21 years old in 1964. You are absolutely correct!

Was the wheelbase the same length on each side?

Don't know. It was a direct factory race car given to the owner of Lyons Dragstrip in Long Beach Ca. Car had 33 miles on it when my dealership bought it. There was a stack of time slips in the glove box that added up to 33 miles. They ranged from 10.9 to 11.3. I thought it was BS till I drove the car. I was wrong.LOL

PS
It had street tires on it when I drove it.

That kind of time was amazing then. I remember back when 13.5 was a damn respectable time.

My 70’ 440 six pack challenger with rear “street slicks” ran high 12s at keystone raceway in Pa. That was the summer of 1970.

13.5 at shitty prepped track, street tires (with hub caps even), 4 speed "racing" auto in a mildly built 289 (headers, bored 60/1000ths over, Holley 4 barrel on an Edelbrock intake) 1966 Mustang - midnight blue metallic over light blue interior with the exposed squirrel cage "cut your fingers off" optional AC blower and that was spinning like a idiot off the line

I drove a Duece and a Half army truck through the 1/4 at 34.9. Think the speed was 42 mph.

That had to be some kind of record for a deuce and a half! Loaded or empty?

Very high strung car for the day, everyone said it was a hand full, Including Tom Hover. I read an article that was by Mr Hemi himself stating in an interview with a car mamazine that he and another engineer had taken out a Max for a street test at Highland park. On return back to engineering he said he nailed it turning from Oakland ave going into the main entrance and kinda lost it, no damage but said it shook him up a bit. If anyone knows of this article please post up. I have previously searched and can’t dig it back up I would probably have to pour through many old mopar magazines to retrieve. That one stuck with me, the Max shaking up Hoover. Kinda like Frankenstein turning on the creator.

I had driven 3 or 4 MaxWedge that were not a stage 3 and they were very fast. This stage 3 light weight was a monster. I think I remember someone saying it was 13 1/2 comp. It was an auto trans. It shook the ground when it started and when put into gear, it raised up about 3 inches like a cat ready to rumble. The sound was unforgetable. Nasty. I grew up in a magic era ( early '60s ) and we had places to open up these cars. We hung out at hamberger stands and bullshited and raced. Cops didn't bother us that much. I consider myself blessed to have lived that.
