I need a Long Handle Torque Wrench

They can be handy for fasteners that are 1-1/2 inches and above.

Not everything is dainty like Chargers and such.

I was thinking bridges, skyscrapers, and such.

All right, enough! At 1500 ft-lb who here can apply 750 pounds of force at the end of that 2’ torque wrench? Some of us have seen a bit of large shit constructed and fairly large equipment repaired and built.

Seems like my comment about primarily worrying about 1,500 ft.-lbs. and up was taken as that I have torque wrenches capable of that. I don't Only a few of my impact wrenches are 1,500 and over, with the leader being a 1-inch hydraulic unit rated at 2,500.

Should I be concerned with more precise torque numbers it requires using torque multipliers, either the old 11:1 I have carried in larger tow vehicles for many years, or the 64:1 I just bought. Hoping to be able to use a drill motor on that one.

Anyway, it doesn't exactly take lots of body strength to operate any of these tools. After all, a 3-inch socket isn't that much heavier than a 2-inch. And with a bad back and knees, when it comes to lifting heavier stuff I rely on tractors and cranes, rated at anything from 1,000 lbs. to 10 tons.

250lbs jumping on to that bar is more than adequate to create the required 750lbs of force needed to make it click. Or, make the bar 2’ longer and reduce the required force to 375 for a more controlled descent. Haha

Best I can boast for is the damn engine shaft nut on the end of my custom 124 ci motorcycle engine we had to bust off once. I remember it was like 250-350 ft-lb or something and we did it by hand…when I was a lot younger. We used one of my 2’ breaker bars. Should have rented a darn hydraulic unit. That was my personal best.

In industry? I have seen rather impressive stuff coming from the world of building about every type of power plant and other infrastructure construction for about 40 years. Love the 10 ton crane comment Jimmy. I bet that is handy around your place from what you tell us. I get turned on at about min 250 ton crawlers and larger made by my favorite manufacturer in Milwaukee.

Best trick ever? Other than watching coal handling structures at 750 MW coal plants or any of the few hydro Kaplan Turbines I was lucky to help build in my career. One of our unique projects and darn lucky to get the opportunity in the last 30 years…Part of it was to plan, estimate, schedule and build 130’ long rebar cages with up to #18 bar that make the assembly weigh about 400k lbs. A Diaphragm Wall starts in the horizontal position. Move each of the 31 of them four miles on a custom type “truck” on highways, THEN use two monster crawlers to pick them up, make them vertical and lower them into real fancy holes in the ground filled with slurry to keep open, then fill the holes with concrete to form a reinforced front on a rather large important dam. Those are common along sea walls also. I miss that shit and the great people who gang together to make that stuff happen.

Next time you are near a construction site, look at some of the bolts/nuts on a 30T excavator. Torquing/untorquing is the easy part. The hard part is maneuvering the part into place to align the holes or catching the part when the last nut comes off! Count your arms and legs before and after!

Here is my new $38 digital long handle 1/2 drive torque wrench. Even comes with a cert of calibration! Seems to work pretty good!

I’ve got one and was about to suggest it as an alternative. I used mine to check and calibrate my cheap torque wrenches. Haven’t used it to tighten lug nuts directly. Supposedly very accurate.

The instructions are atrocious. Is there a way to store the target torque values? All I can find is a way to store previous torque peaks, which seems pretty worthless.

I just set the torque I need and listen for the beep. It should hold the setting while you’re using it. (Clicker wrenches are supposed to be stored at their minimum setting, anyway) All I’ve used it for is calibrating my wrenches. Maybe some YouTube videos can explain any other capabilities.
