Hello All,

In light of a recent unfortunate forum member event / experience, I am soliciting recommendations for a good dash cam to purchase.

If you have any dash cam you would recommend, please provide some information on it so I can check it out. Pros and Cons would be nice too.

Thanks to all in advance.

p.s.
enjoy your smiles per gallon but, steer clear of Maryland unless your car is equipped with bumpers like a tug boat. :(

I have purchased some over the years and the damn record card is a pain in the ass. I wish they would make one that records x amount of time then just starts all over again. Who cares if it erases yesterdays drive I just dont get it. You just need it for the what if that day then it should be fresh the next day.

I picked up this Street Guardian for the Mrs. I just completed a firmware update and install. Still have not got around to hardwire it to enable parking protection but it seems to be a good unit so far. I looked at a few videos in daylight and darkness and rain, snow, etc. Resolution very good. Installation and wiring the 2nd camera and gps straight forward. Hiding the wiring simple. 2 channel a must imho. Check out the dash cam forums, plenty available at every price point.

I really like my ReplayXD. It's very small, and can be set to write over what's there as the card fills up.
It probably has close to 100,000 miles on it by now, in different vehicles, over almost 10 years.

Hmmm... I was hoping / looking for something that didn't require any hard wiring. Not sure I want to deal with that aspect nor do I want to lose any mobility with the cam (transfer between vehicles). I will check out the Guardian for options that might fit my thinking. Thank you.

What about a Go Pro? Maybe even a retired cell phone that you use as a dedicated camera?

Blackvue dual channel

I've got a 650, 750 and a 950

Besides the dual channel aspect of it, I like the packaging of it, it tucks up under the mirror and essentially isn't visible to you while in the normal driving position.

Minor firmware issues in the beginning, but not unlivable. Slightly better video quality is available elsewhere, but for me the primary factor was how clean it is in the car.

If you want, I can post video from the 650, you'll have to ignore the GPS speed though, it was "off" that day.

I guess that wouldn't hurt although I was just watching a video using the 900S version. 4K and 1080P is pretty damn good. Thanks.

I have been using ApeMan products from Amazon, they are cheaper, but the video quality is on par with most anything else. It just loop overwrites when the card gets full, they have forward only or forward and rear, all 1080p. Install is easy, plug directly into the existing ignition off cig. lighter power supply, rear camera plugs into front camera so only one power wire.

Nice video. Can the mic be turned off? I tend to think out loud....and by that I mean "instantaneous venting"....cuz it helps keep the blood pressure down when I'm interacting with the motoring public, especially in my area where they seem to think putting on their turn signal and jamming their fender in front of you gives them the right of way......
If I posted a video like this I'd probably have a lot of bleeps in it...or have to spend a lot of time putting them in ;)

Feel the same way. I'm sure my videos would be laced with complimentary comments making it more of a documentary film.

I've also been looking at dash cams. I have a V1 radar detector powered by a mirror tap on a blend mount currently installed. I only have the detector mounted on road trips though (so rarely.) So I went looking for cams that could be powered by the 12V RJ11 wire available for the V1. Only found the Escort M1 cam. Interesting because it looks like it could be used along with the V1 (instead of an Escort RD.) It has pass through RJ11 power. This would eliminate any further hard wiring and a mounting option for the blend mount is available. Its also very small. Negative is its on the expensive side and not a very well featured cam. Also might be pushing the power capability of a mirror tap when used along with the radar detector.
