OK, I'm entertaining the thought of buying a 170 now that the prices are almost reasonable, and there are a LOT available, and a LOT under 20mi. The under 20mi cars are in $140k range (unless the seller is on drugs and still thinks these will go up in value), and with miles, some are selling in the $120 range.

There is an interesting one on ebay now for $140k with all the wrappings. I am NOT a collector, I WILL be driving and 'testing" it to very mfr's performance ratings... :)

The other worry is, Demons built in Jan 2024 that have 20mi on them, aren’t the cylinders rusted? Suspension/drivetrain joints/bearing rusted/seized? DR’s cracked?

Maybe a Demon with 500mi on it is better than one with 20mi?

Please provide your thoughts. Comments are welcome from all HC owners! Thanks.

Personally, I’d only be concerned about old gas and MAYBE flat spotted DRs if it hadn’t been moved in almost two years. Smarter members might have some other concerns.

Most will be stored in climate controlled garages. I don’t think you have to worry about rusty cylinders. Who can have a car like that without starting it up occasionally to hear the sweet rumble of that exhaust?

Check the underside..my 18 Demon was a winter build...sat in an upfitters lot for months...when I got it home..and put it up on the lift ,,I got sick to my stomach...heavy salt...corrosion.. rust..EVERYWHERE....took a ton of work to get it pristine again...my other 2 cats were fine...

To drive and enjoy I'd pass over the 20 mile cars personally unless you just find the perfect spec and the price is close to the same as one with a few miles on it.

If I were shopping for one, I'd want one with 2,000+ miles on the original motor that had the spark plug campaign performed and bonus if it came with a time slip showing a 145-148mph trap speed. The miles and trap speed would show it was a good example and unlikely to have any of the problems some of them have had.

Cars do not like to sit, whether in climate controlled storage or not. Some collectors think firing the car up once a month for a few minutes alleviates this concern, but in my opinion that causes its own problems. Most people that leave them sit won't take the time to actually take it for a 15 or 20 minute drive which is what SHOULD be done in my opinion at least once a month.

A good example Demon 170 is a fantastic street strip car. It's almost too easy at the drag strip once you dial it in, and they drive great on the street. Mine's coming up on 3800 trouble free miles. People still lose their minds, especially the kids, whenever I take it out.

I know of a Go Mango Demon 170 that is coming up for sale. The only down side is the owner did a matte wrap on it. I can get you in touch if interested.

If I were going to sell mine in this current market I'd want $135K and include the custom 3 piece forged street tire setup, a spare set of factory Demon 170 rear tires, and the Billet Specialties front runners. You can use that price as a reference point.
