My plan was to do this over winter when the engine is coming out and do engine, clutch, Trans, DS, Killer Chiller installation but there’s 6-8 weeks of nice cool track weather still for some play time and I want to see how my new 2.98 first Tranzilla does for my 1/4 times by itself. So the big question is can tranny come out without taking the exhaust system off? By the way exhaust routed around it looks like it’s possible which would make it a pretty quick swap. Anyone know??
I Would put the new DS in at same time as torque multiplication from 2.26 to 2.98 is definitely going to stress the stock DS more.

Doubt it. I had the transmission out of my 2011 so many times I could do it in 45min including exhaust. It did not have cooler lines. Eventually modified the exhaust to make removing it easier. I can say I never tried to leave the exhaust in, but I think it would be difficult to get to all the bolts and lower it. Replaced the HRB as well when I had it out.

Going to replace DS too so probably just get exhaust system out of the way already.

Did DS swap today, complete exhaust system took about 20 minutes to remove alone, collectors to tail pipe tips, 4 nuts 4 bolts. Didn’t do trans swap though, wanting to see if DS swap alone produces any unwanted NVH and also last track night of the year coming up this Friday night

Hoping to have time before first snow here and salt cinders are out to change tyranny alone and then over winter change clutch, flywheel (alum) and bell along with some motor enhancements

Have people had success with the Tranzilla? The 1 guy I knew who had one, almost immediately moved on.

This is why I'm in this thread, I've heard very good things, and some not so good. To be fair, the "bad" story I heard was after 1100hp... (IIRC)

Used the same bell-housing and RXT 1000 clutch. 3 years ago and still going strong. I don‘t know if you are using the stock release bearing/slave cylinder, but as I recall it needs a shim for proper throw with that clutch. I used an aftermarket HRB that came with shims. Also checked the runout on the bellhousing.

Hope you have luck with Tranzilla.

Double check TO bearing clearance. Had my trans out 3 times in the old car to get it right. McLeod built the clutch too short. Wasn't an issue until speed shifting.

Side question: How is the streetability on that clutch? Chatter?, peddle pressure?

Speedy, what clearance did you find that worked?

My friend put this RXT1200 in his 800 wheel mustang last month with new engine and trans. Pedal pressure hardly different then stock, no chatter but he says there’s no slipping it it grabs hard. Says it doesn’t bother him street driving, the car is his daily but on the track he’s still getting used to launching it. His best time the day this video taken was a 10.82. When we ran side by did, He did a 11.0 me a 11.3 He’s running a 2 step, each shift he pulled a 1/4 car on me, was just off his bumper across the line.

Here is our run that day, no video though we where both in our cars lol
He’s car 73 me 76

042 how was QuickTime bell run out wise as is out of box? You check it’s angular accuracy also? (Trans Face flatness). Did you have to get offset dowels to get it within runout spec?
I also dial a new bell in, sometimes it takes all day and SUCKS, bell gets heavy after putting it on and off a dozen times lol. Just wondering to look forward to this with this bell or not??

just checked the runout as I recall. Was concerned I might need offset dowels when first installed, but was within spec once torqued down.

Pedal pressure is quite a bit more than stock, but it grabs hard and seems durable. car dyno’d at 650 whp when built. I don’t drive it a lot but when I do it is worked hard in various road racing events. 20170813_155538000_iOS.png

Ok, so ended up playing musical drive shaft with the DSS, ended up taking it out and ordering a Wiles. During the wait swapped in just the Tranzilla, left stock clutch and bell in place for now. Wiles a nice piece but not a drop in with a Barton, had to mod the Barton to get it to clear but it’s doable and worth it, Barton shifts the Tranzilla nice. Took the spring out of the 5th 6th gate while it was out, definitely like it better with easier to get to 5th gear.

So the verdict on the 2.98, 2.10,1.40 with 3.73 and 28.5 OD tire?

First off my Nitto 315-35-20 05r’s where like Kojack’s head but where giving me consistent 11.6 street pulls would do nothing but spin spin spin, 12.3 street 1/4’s but it’s cooled off here and test area surface cold. And BTW installed blower insulator spacers and blankets while down so maybe making a bit more power as well as the car feels like an animal with this ratio but just can’t hook up. So put my only half worn out 275-30-20 ET Street SS’s on, well their totally worn out now as they spin even easier then the bald nitto’s did. So ordered a new set of 315 05r’s and put them on yesterday in anticipation of going to the track today and see if I could hook up on a sticky surface and see if this trans is a keeper or not. Well is 30F here at 8am and temps only predicted to be 40-44 at best at 3pm so we cancelled the 2 hour 1 way ride to the track :( bummer.
But I did try a few pulls yesterday, but the area not peaceful on a Saturday afternoon so many rushed and aborted starts. Tires at first 32 psi, climbed to 39, no traction. Aired them down to 29 and was better, I usually run them at 26 on the street, didn’t get to test that low. Got 1 decider pass in, no burnout, 29 psi netted a 11.8 partial throttle in first and second and 2.3 60 ft’s so there’s lots to gain with better hook up, 1/4 speed was 132.6. The interesting data is G force. My usual street G’s in pulls .65-.7 max, .95 max seen at the track doing a 1.8 60 ft and a 3.1 0-60 with burnout 18 psi in the tires and good prep. Well street G’s are now a consistent .75 and saw a .91 with the new Nittos at 29 psi which has to be from the lower ratios. My boy riding passenger said it really throws you back into the seat more now, my 10 second Stang buddy said the same thing. Track data would have been really nice but unfortunately it’s too cold for such today :(. ATCO coming up on the 15th, if weather is good maybe I’ll get there and get some track data but for now this is all I have.

.02 at the moment, Tranny staying in, G force increase tells me it’s a help. No more clutch slipping to get out of the hole, but now LOTS of throttle peddling which isn’t easy as when it does spin it’s revs VERY quick to redline, probably the super light weight Wiles DS helping there. It’s for sure more animalistic now, starting out in first normal driving is just let the clutch out and go, you can’t stall it. I May have my original redone with the 2.66, 1.99,1.40 combo over winter and see what it feels like but that’s not a cheap mod.

What would be great is if I could via tune limit throttle % by gear, it’s hard to consistently part throttle the car in first and second. Is this possible with any tuning software in the Hellcat PCM to do such?? I ask as I put it in 500 HP mode, launch MUCH easier but then 3 rd and 4 th had shit for power, netted a 12.8 at 114 in 500 HP mode but didn’t leave any expensive rubber on the road either.

Very cool!

Do you have the factory 3.70s in the diff? The easy (?) answer may be to toss in a 3.09 gear set and/or run a 30 tall tire versus building a whole new transmission. As much as that would seem like a step backwards at this stage. The obvious problem being traction now.

I completely agree that the factory M6 does feel a bit doggy and a set of gears (4.10+) would be a difference maker for most folks - with the obvious trade offs. I am keeping my eye out for a 3.90 set as a compromise since my car will never get close to 195mph.

Nice work! What did you have to do to Barton to fit? Grind to clear u-joint coupler? (pics?). No mention of vibration with this driveshaft. Assume all good. Good luck with this setup, hope all comes together for the better when weather permits. Again, (y).
