Guys is there a chance about there was an air in the system?

Calipers removed to paint them.
Brake fluid renewed.
Discs removed and machined
New red brembos installed.

In this process if there was a little air left in the system this could happen? But keep in mind rear discs are ok they have the old original brembo brake pads.
Only front pads were changed

Those calipers were definitely biting on those rotors

New fact! Calipers were removed for painting. Did not know that until the morning. What do think now Doctor @BULL ?

This is good OP. You can at least increase the size and number of the Defendants now. Those pads are looking more and more harmless with each post. Now you can forget about adding Brembo to that list however. So far my services are about up to one hour for ya. Now I am somewhere between the painter and the installer. Where are the bolts? Fell out??

I did read you drive this car for 45k miles before this 100 mile issue?

Air isn't the problem, that's for sure.

I do want to verify those pad p/n's, but right now I can't.

Paint caused the pistons to stick? Maybe, but that would have been apparent immediately as well (as a lack of fine modulation).

Unless there is more, I'm still of the opinion that the root cause for this is the installation by the shop, with the mounting bolts being the major contributing factor.

I'm positive that there were signs, but who knows at this point.

Focus on a thorough, proper repair and lesson learned.

As for the pads, go with the Z26s this time, they are well known and proven by many.

@BULL - The p/n checks out, one of the first things I did.

The caliper rebuild… why did it take 5 pages for that to come to light?!?

Regardless of the cause, there is no way those rotors got to that point over 100 miles without something obviously noticeable (sound...smell...feel).

And since that isn't being admitted, I'm taking this entire thread with a huge grain of salt.

Grains of salt...are generally uniform is size....I suspect what you elude to....is a bag of salt...(if needed..I wholesale it in 50/80lb bags);)

Yup...pretzel salt is more than fine salt...it comes in clear...(opaque) and white...roughly.20 cents a lb. in bulk...

…that’s my sticking point with this whole 💩 show…this all happened in 100 miles AND there was no audible, tactile, odor…NO indication whatsoever that this massive failure was underway…

Sounds like a combination of installation error combined with a complete lack of situational awareness…

Then again, it could just be a troll 🧌 thread and we’re all in…🤣

I too am wondering about the caliper removal. I actually did not see he had "rebuilt" the calipers, thought it was just paint...that being said, if o rings were not put on/ seated correctly then it would make more sense as to root cause. Caliper would not move smoothly and Voila...above problems explained.

Are you sure? Those look like air gouges and air with too much oxygem can be highly corrosive.

I'm expecting a post from Powerstop any minute..."No, please don't"

Grains of salt...are generally uniform is size.
But no two are alike.

We could just talk about salt again. Damn shit is not far off given the weather in most of the north state this weekend. I am afraid the queen is parked for the year. My brakes are being put away looking good.

Let’s see. I suppose driving along with the cruise control on, after stopping fairly aggressively the system on all four pads goes retarded and applies pressure. Okay, then lots of crap happens. Shit is hot, very hot maybe.

Smell anything yet?

Bolts become loose? Now you have drag on the steering due to differential pressures of the pad/rotor. Both sides he says. What kind of a road do you have to not feel this yet? Steering don’t feel strange? Never used the brakes in 100 miles? If you did WTF did it feel like? Okay.

Those calipers loose at least one bolt. Causes them to fall off laterally. Fuck, hits the wheel. So bad it has grinded the wheel. Twisted it nearly.
WTF, can’t feel that?

Who has the bolts? Where are the calipers so someone who knows their shit can tell you WTF is going on with them before you throw them away.
