When dropping my car down from the QJ yesterday it came down one side substantially quicker than the other. A bit concerning. I knew right away it was a matter of the gas cylinders not having enough air pressure. Checking the pressure with a gauge d/s had 0 and p/s had <5psi. Just a reminder it may be a good idea to check the pressure in the cylinders before dropping the car. That’s all.

Do you remember how much they’re supposed to have on them? Mine are also only a few years old and the paint is chipping off because of surface rust under the paint.

Max 50psi. But they fill really quick so be careful.

Got my new one up, locked in place and disconnected the lines so no strange pressure crap can happen in the next few months, plus I knew when they released no pressure was remaining in the system after I locked it out up in the air.

Good reminder for everyone @Old Mopar Guy to watch everything. It all looks easy but we got 4500+ lbs up in the air.

FYI, I have one that is defective, as such, I've got ~50psi in one, and 0psi in the other, and I still get essentially even behavior, until they get to a point where they don't have any weight from the car, then one stops (0psi) and the other one (50psi) continues until it's fully lowered.

Depending on which vehicle is involved, this is either an inch or several.

I'd look for other causes, air pockets maybe?

I haven’t checked mine since I got them 3 years ago and they always work as they should, have used them at least 40 times

Mine worked that way until yesterday. Only refilled cylinders twice since owning for a few yrs. I will say though that it took me 3 or 4 attempts to properly position jacks this time around, so up and down a few times may account for that.
Also, I do disconnect my lines when the jack is locked in either upward position.

Ya know we need to talk. That is the reason plus so much rust one finally locked that I bought a new QJ. Before I throw out my former QJ, I may need to strip a part or two off of the good side for you. Maybe it is a good thing I have not taken all of it to the recycle facility yet!

I got you covered, I may only need shipping from you. Too bad I don’t have the nuts to just pack that sucker in my luggage in two weeks when I fly out. I’ll take future consideration on stuff. Home all week so I’ll get going on maybe just parting this old bunch of stuff out and getting rid of all of it.

I have owned two QJs. The gas cylinders are junk (per me) and their only purpose is to retract the frames last little bit after the vehicle weight touches back to the ground (per QJ). They are useless (per me, as they leak fast and never hold air for long), and not required (per QJ tech.), because I talked to them about it in the past. If your lifting or retraction is not balanced side to side, you likely have other issues in the pump and/or valving in the main unit.
