Also keep in mind, lifting a 60-70lb tire up into the rack is harder than it might seem.

I put them in the bed of my truck first, back up to it, and then lift from there.
Standing in the bed, or just decrease extent of motion?

Wall mount is obviously the way to go for space considerations but as noted security instability are primary keys. Years ago an acquaintance of mine I was putting everything he could on his walls and the final item was the creeper. And he was so pleased have you gotten everything out of the way and then three or four days later the creeper vibrated off the holder and hit both his GTO and his pickup truck. I've never heard of a tire rack properly mounted to the studs coming off the wall I have seen Tire racks they were poorly assembled fall apart and tires fall out of them that way.

Lift wheels to bed, get in bed, lift wheels to rack.

No pain, no stress, no wheels over your head in your hands about to fall on your face.

Also, if there's only one wheel in the rack, it IS possible for a wheel to turn sideways and come down through the rack. Bad deal when your face is under the rack.

Yeah and with my 5 back surgeries since 2007, I'm extra careful. Thx

I also screwed a 3/8" lag eyebolt into the ceiling and made a block and pulley setup to lift the tire from the ground into the rack, but it ended up being a bit precarious so that's when I went to the pickup bed method.

If you look on top of the cabinets in the picture, you can see the rope for the block and pulley coiled up.

How many wide tires does it actually hold?
The tire rack brand I have that I showed has 2 315's and 2 305's on it. That rack says 400lb capacity..

When you already have so many back operations you can remember, and mounted way, way higher than they recommend…

Can I ask where you purchased the hoist from?

I was thinking that it might be nice to have a Tire rack shelf like how the hoist works. There are storage shelves made already.

I keep no wheels @ home...I take em to work...put em on a pallet..shrink wrap em...and put them on a pallet rack...I just recently found a set of Fittipaldi 5 spoke wheels and tires from my 1989 BMW M3...I mothballed them in 92...they will probably be there forever...

Attach the hoist to the rack and lift it once.
For what it’s worth, I just to store 2 full sets of wheels and tires in the loft of my shop, 13’ high… and I’d have to carry them up a ladder and squeeze them between trusses to make them fit.
Those days are over. 3D99838A-8B3B-4BA0-BB70-2459679FF9F8.jpeg

I just keep all of our tires on some furniture rollers stacked on their side. One roller for each set of 4. My wall space is taken up with shelves galore.
Right now we have 5 sets of tires on rollers. That will be a little less soon.

I don’t remember, and once the security system is off, I could get to the garage and look, but it is no more complicated than some of these that Northern sells. I remember I did disable one of the “double” hoist lines, and wire tied it to the pulley. Of course mount it so you don’t pull sheet rock down, and into something substantial. This one has the same control as mine, and seems to have a real similar description. It works great!

TD, furniture rollers are not as sexy!
How the hell can we plan on driving over 150 mph a week from Monday? You got some new studded racing tires we can try at BIR? I don’t know if the damn snow is even melted up there yet?

I just went with the same thing. Amazon has one for sale for about 45.00. It works for me…

I have something similar to this already. I want to avoid taking up floor space.

Ive got slightly more floor than wall space. Years past Ive stored them in the shed but that’s getting old too.
