Looking to get more out of my 392 and hoping to get first hand experience from others here. Is the Thornton tuning chip worth adding or is it over hyped?
What other mods should a newbie look at adding?

Are you going to make it a weekend warrior @DTA? What are you planning to do with it? I know a couple of guys who got a pretty good increase in the seat of the pants feel just with a Diablo Sport plug-in tuner and a pedal Commander. If you are going to the strip, some drag radials will get you in the low 12’s…with those other mods.

Dodge pretty much designed the 392 to get the most out of it. Getting more comes with a big Mopar tax. I’d say enjoy what you have then make a Cat your next move up.

Pretty much sums up everything I've ever read about the 392. There is little you can do to add power without seriously getting into the internals.
You might be able to safely squeeze a little more juice with a competent, custom tuner but I'd tread lightly if you need to keep it a reliable DD.

We got racks of them sitting around! Wish they would let me have one :ROFLMAO::cool:;) but yeah they are about maxed out as is. Better off upgrading a 5.7L they can handle a lot more upgrading than a 6.4L

It's hard to look at racks and racks of 6.4L engines with 8 speeds and transfer cases assembled sitting around knowing you can't have them:(:cry:

Thanks for the info all! I sounds like engine upgrades are off the table. Guess I’ll have to focus on cosmetic improvements or consider the HC upgrade.

392 is a blast. It should keep your attention for a while (y).

I agree. The juice isn't worth the squeeze.

And I have one. I left it stock. The dollar to horsepower value for upgrades isn't there, (for me, anyway).
