Why do EV's in general have poor top speed
Compared to my Mustangs in the past, it seems EV's in general have poor top speed EXCEPT Tesla, why ?

Tesla Model 3 RWD base. 139 mph
Tesla Model S 162 mph
Mach-E Select/Premium 112 mph
Mach- E GT 124 mph
Chevrolet Bolt EV 2LT 90 mph
Nissan Leaf Plus 98 mph
Mini Cooper SE 93 mph
Kona Electric 103 mph
Ioniq 5 115 mph

2007 Mustang GT 149 mph
2021 Mustang GT 159 mph

Single speed transmission is the easy answer. Even electric motors have a max safe RPM.

It seems some Tesla's have dual motors with each motor having a different ratio to enhance low and high speed performance. The Plaid motor can spin over 23k RPM, which explains it's 200 mph top speed.

The Mach E also has different ratios front and rear.

Actual Plaid top speed is in the 160s, at which speed it is reported to be terrifying. Tesla says it may be improved to 200 one day, but per Car and Driver it drove so poorly at 160 that 200 would be like a death wish.

It does though. Just like in ICE cars, different electric motors have different power curves and max RPM.

Design. They designed it for that speed. Others did not. And along with top motor RPM it is also about battery thermal management. The more heat the design can pull away from the battery then the higher its output levels can be for longer.

So basically, you don't want your EV motor to fly apart or your battery to burst into flames, and different manufacturers use different designs.

They need to epoxy the windings like I did to my slot cars when I was 14 years old. They turned 50,000+RPM without flying apart.

Thats pretty cool you were able to save those cars.

And $350/sf to rebuild now - YIKES.
I did construction/home design back in the mid and early 2000s out of high school. The luxury homes back then cost 120/sf. Damn.

I met a guy who ordered a plaid right away. He was all excited about it and was active on some plaid forums and facebook groups. A few people got them before he did and all said they are fast but sketchy like you are saying. I guess their breaking is a huge issue. Last I talked to him was a week before he actually received it so haven't talked to him more about it.

There is a throttle house video with them.
Both of them drive the Plaid and the look on their faces as they try to slow down from triple digits shows the car is not really capable of handling the power it has.

Does anyone remember Greaseman (Michael Tracht) on the radio! He could make a hilarious skit about Tesla’s and sailboats! He was funny. I miss him!

Drove 190 miles today in stop and go traffic and more of Hwy driving at 70-80 mph. Left with 211 mile range returned with 68 miles. Net positive miles I guess equals 47 miles.

This is the Powerboater vs Sailboater one I was thinking of. I think most of us @ChargerChallenger identify as powerboaters…except for a couple I won’t mention:LOL:

Now being a competitive sail boat racer from Privateer Yacht Club, Chattanooga, Tenn/// I resent that statement. What a clash like between the H/C and the Ford F150 with a diamond shining out of a goats ass. Terrible comparison. To be a trueism,, I raced out of Clearwater Yacht Club in the early 2000s before and after 5 and 7 fian says. Say what?? Yes a little known fact that the Hickster was involved with joining the Olympics for sailing. Nice adventure growing up smoking a pound of pot a day. And chilling. Playing patty cakes with sharks and pinguins at the Sea World in Orlando, I sailed in competition. Up in competition with 10 meter spring board diving. Sea what turned me from being vanilla. Awful. Turned into a whore monger, professional biker, fast pack driver, and 7 year competitive Fealine monger. Still not dun. Stay tuned rookies.

The 1st min documents a burned-down Tesla dealership...
Okay, so it wasn't all bad then. Kinda like when my former house in CA burnt down after I sold it...with a Tesla in the garage.

There's always a silver lining.

Actually I lived in San Francisco and took sailing lessons and we owned sail boats growing up. Not a true insult to Sailors I thought it was funny @jonx96 friend went from owning a Tesla to Sailing was funny in the same sentence😁

IDK about an EV car I that would have to charge every night. Just think about all those people in the Ukraine driving to the next Country! They'd be more stuck then they are now!
