Sorry, this has probably been gone over no doubt but I can't find anything, plus i looked but am not sure where exactly to post this... 2019 redeye with HK, music is on a USB drive and I see no way to get it into the vehicle system, or create a playlist.. I can look for a playlist which there are none, but no provision that i can find to move the music off the USB and create one. Thanks for any ideas. The 8 and 10 year olds across the street are not available to help, so I am dead in the water.....thanks for any advice.

Yo @Indigo Joe! Can you just plug the USB into the port that is inside the center console?

Hey @EricG , Hope all is well, long time no talk..yes that's how i listen to music but if i forget to pull the stick it gets warm, I want to load the music and pull the stick and leave it out. I was able to pair my laptop with the car, amazingly, using blue tooth and it said i could not transfer a folder, so i tried to send individual songs and if errored out again. So I am up against the ropes for the time being

I've seen nothing that leads me to believe Uconnect 'downloads' your USB. It does seem to make/retain some sort of 'index' of the metadata to facilitate the built in play functions (i.e. by artist, album, genre etc.), but not the actual music files themselves.

If you want a play list, you need to roll your own on the USB by making a file folder (Joes Tunes) and copying the tunes you want into it, then selecting it via the Uconnect controls.

Seems odd the USB gets hot, mine seems OK & I leave it plugged in all the time.

Thanks @MikeD1, well this is surprising because in my 09 SRT I could move music into the radio via USB and save as a playlist no problem. I don't want to leave a stick plugged into the console and get banged around potentially... It really doesn't get hot, just warm, but I am pretty sure that port is hot all the time with key off similar to some laptops I have had.
Thanks

My '08 & '09 Infiniti's did it as well, they called the feature Musicbox. It was also 'record' a CD as you played it & store it.
Not sure why it went away, guessing some copyright legal BS ??

So when I poke around on the screen and see "playlists" , how in the ____ would I create one to begin with is what I am getting at. That's where I am spinning my wheels against the wall. I am not really astute at this so forgive my lack of.it being able to rapidly soak it in, I am somewhat technical but not at all with media issues. I will try to take a screen shot of what I am looking at when I get back to the car.

This may help, skip the 1st 3 min. where he talks about formatting the USB since you have already done that.

Personally I think it's a lot of bother and since I have tons of room on my USB, I did the folder thing & just copied the files.

Thanks for that @MikeD1 , I watched the vid and appreciate you sending it and getting me more up to speed, but what a cluster that is when in the older days you just plug the usb in then send the files.to the vehicle. That's what I can't get over. I can see your point now about just use a USB to listen from but it still does not make any sense to me why it has been made so difficult to accomplish a formerly minor task. I see blue tooth on the screen as well and appears to be just as miserable to use to try to copy music files to the UCONNECT . Oh well.

Some Chrysler vehicles had hard drives in years past but the newer cars do not. You can't transfer music to the unit.

There has to be some kind of reason for it, security is my best guess. I am puzzled however why i can pull up a screen something about view playlists, or something to that effect. I will be back with the vehicle today sometime.

I asked "Co Pilot" I wouldn't know how to do this or even make it easier to do,

Maybe @Diboblo

Format Your USB Drive
• Use FAT32 format for best compatibility.
• Drives over 32GB may need third-party tools to format properly.
• Avoid NTFS or exFAT unless you’ve confirmed your Uconnect version supports it.

2. Use Compatible Audio Files
• Stick with MP3 format. Uconnect is picky—FLAC, AAC, or Apple Lossless may not play reliably.
• Avoid nested folders. Keep music organized in simple folders like “Rock,” “Jazz,” or “Road Trip.”

2. ▶ Play music from usb device in your car walks you through transferring music and organizing it for smooth playback.

3. Plug Into the Correct USB Port

• Use the media USB port, typically inside the center console or under the dash—not the charging-only port.
• Uconnect should auto-detect and display your files under the “Media” tab.
3. ▶ Using USB Flash Drives to Play Music in Your Car shows how to plug in and navigate your music using stereo controls.

🎶 Playlist Workarounds
Uconnect doesn’t support traditional playlist files (like M3U), but you can simulate playlists:
• Folder Playlists: Create folders named “Favorites,” “Cruise Mix,” etc. Uconnect treats each folder like a playlist.
• Filename Sorting: Rename tracks with numbers (e.g., “01_SongName.mp3”) to control play order.
• ID3 Tags: If your files have proper metadata (artist, album, genre), Uconnect can sort and filter by those.

▶ 2019-2023 Dodge Charger uConnect media screen gives a great overview of navigating media, presets, and performance pages—very similar to your Redeye’s interface.

🛠️ Troubleshooting Tips
• If your USB isn’t recognized:
• Reformat to FAT32 and reload the files.
• Try a smaller capacity drive (32GB or less is safest).
• Avoid USB 3.0 drives—some Uconnect systems prefer USB 2.0.
▶ Uconnect 8.4 Swap Upgrade Speedy's Garage includes USB troubleshooting and testing tips, especially useful if you’re considering a head unit upgrade.
▶ UConnect Play Videos from USB Drive in Chrysler Jeep ... explains how Uconnect reads file formats and USB structure—helpful even though it focuses on video.
▶ uConnect 4 in the 2022 Dodge Challenger | Connect a phone ... shows how to navigate apps and media settings, which are consistent across Redeye and Challenger platforms.

Edit: I should have mentioned, this only applies to '15-'18 model years. I haven't played with anything newer.. Formats are limited to .mp3 [up to 384 kbps], .wav [up to 1600 kbps], and the compressed version of apple's .m4a format, stereo only, no 4.0, 5.1, 6.0 or 7.1 channel formats. '08-'10 MyGig was far superior for audio playback, and included surround codecs/formats [up to 6 channel .dts or 5.1 .mlp]

What you're seeing in the crap uconnect is just a simple directory tree and file list, and is all that's copied from your removable media. Insert a different device in the same slot, it'll be copied over. If you want to see playlists, you'll have to generate your own, unfortunately.

Example:

create playlists using a basic text file [UNIX flat file, apple text file, MS Notepad [not Notepad+ it adds hidden EOL characters], etc.]. name the file with whatever will identify the contents for you, and be sure to include .m3u as a file extension.

in this example the #EXTINF lines include the file length in seconds, Album name - song name -
second line is the full path to the file. In the below case, I named the removable media Music, so /<device>/artist/album/song filename

once done save the file with a name you'll recognize, and save to the removable media [doesn't have to be in the same folder with the song titles]. Example: Back In Black.m3u

these are just the first few lines, just add more as needed

#EXTM3U
#EXTINF:315,Back In Black - Hells Bells -
/Music/ACDC/Back in Black/Hells Bells.wav
#EXTINF:320,Back In Black - Shoot To Thrill -
/Music/ACDC/Back in Black/Shoot To Thrill.wav
#EXTINF:215,Back In Black - What Do You Do For The Money Honey -
/Music/ACDC/Back in Black/What Do You Do For The Money Honey.wav

2009 MyGig had a literal hard drive to store files. So, yes, you could download media to that radio. I actually still have a brand new one, still in the MOPAR box, in my shop.

Your current media center is not designed as a storage device and is not intended to have anything downloaded to it, for playback, like movies, or music. It is intended to stream music, via USB.

The media stick is intended to be left in place, for use. You will need to create and manage your own playlists, in a hierarchical file format. On screen access just mimics how you have arranged your music.
