Wow!!! Thank you mean cat !! That is great to know !! I’m surprised there is enough play to be able to remove the axles while keeping the wheels on the car.

not having to fuss with the wheels and brake parts is a time saver !!!

I would be using my quick jack for this job so I should have plenty Of work space Under the car.

I had a buddy do mine and it took longer to get the exhaust out of the way than anything else. We pulled one wheel off and pulled one axle out, I had made up a wood cradle to put the rearend on a floor jack and away we went, he charged me $200.00 best thing I ever did.

I was supposed to get you a picture of mine, will post in a minute after this.


I made mine from 3/4" plywood. The front was a u-shaped/yoke thing that went up from a flat section of the plywood and "grabbed" the front input shaft/flange area. In the pictures, the front is unscrewed from the baseplate, but it was attached when I was actually using it.

I also drilled the lifting foot of my floor jack and attached the plywood base to the lifting foot so I couldn't slip/tip.

Diameter of the cutout is 3", flaired out to about 45deg

If you happen to have 5/8" plywood, it will work better, the 3/4" is tight on the flange.

use your new housing for a template it makes the install so much easier when you can just rest it on the floor jack.

i had that very same thought. Id like to avoid buying a transmission jack for this job.

I bought one (addon for my Napa floor jack).

Biggest PITA, useless, cumbersome thing I've ever paid money for...

As long as you secure the jig to your floor jack so it won't slip/tip, this really is a pretty easy task.

If anything is challenging it's the access to the bolts and removing the axles, but even that wasn't hard.

It took me the better part of a day to do, but only because I kept stopping to clean stuff (that wasn't really dirty to begin with).

OCD can be a bitch sometimes.
