I was examining wheels today and noted a fracture of one of the spokes on my stock 2017 wheels. No recollection of any harsh impacts ever. Anyone else ever see this? View attachment 60821
What prompted the inspection? Routine?

Do you think it is safe to drive it to tire repair to switch out wheels?
I wouldn't.

Do you drag race or road course with that wheel ?
No racing, just daily driving with a bit of sport!

That's very odd that it would crack without much stress.

I would not drive on it.

No more than 20 or 25 mph. If that.

I guess no evidence that it was hit with something ?

Based on how that failed, it looks like a material/manufacturing defect, an anomaly and not something I would expect with our wheels (which seems to be empirically evident).

I’d drive it to the tire shop without much concern but that’s all I’d do with regards to driving it.

Ok...brain working...
Yesterday driving home, pickup truck two lanes over to my right had a cooler fall off the bed. Did not see anything hit me but heard some sound from my car. Pulled over and looked things over, saw nothing.
Now this today. I wonder....

Dont underestimate the damage one of those can do. How fast? 30? 80?

You see how perfectly straight that crack is? That doesn’t happen in nature. Based on the fact that these are forged wheels, that imperfection was created at the factory and something over the course of driving it caused it to become more evident.

Could have been an imperfection in the material or the process when forging, then when stressed started propagating into a large fracture.

Ahhhhh! The dreaded cooler strike. I’m lucky to have not encountered that yet.

Agree crack pretty straight and no defect like from projectile impact...crazy
